Chevrolet Captiva Returns For A Second Generation As Rebadged Baojun 530

    carscoops.com

    MARCH 26, 2019
    BY DAN MIHALASCU

Chevrolet brings back the Captiva nameplate for a second generation, but only in select markets from Asia and South America.
While the all-new Captiva crossover was first shown late last year in Colombia, Chevrolet is giving it a proper debut at the Bangkok Auto Show in Thailand. If you live in China you’ll find the new Captiva very familiar because it’s essentially a rebadged version of the Baojun 530 SUV sold there.

The 2019 Captiva will offer five- and seven-seat configurations and Chevrolet Thailand believes that will allow it to appeal to both B- and C-segment SUV buyers.

“The All-New Captiva is positioned to overlap the fast-growing SUV-B and SUV-C segments,” said Ms. Piyanuch Chaturaphat, Sales & Marketing General Director of Chevrolet Sales Thailand. “Captiva will be especially attractive for customers looking to get into their first SUV; offering expressive style, life-sized space, and smart technology, all wrapped in a smart-value package,” the executive added.

Its probably on GM's non-US GEM (Global Emerging Markets) FWD platform.

the end of the article where it states "for a buyers FIRST SUV"
is a BIT of a clue that this thing is CHEAP and "cheery" and not a "GOOD" SUV

In light of the new Ram truck front end, this is more what Chevy and GMC nose should have looked like to a degree IMO. I like this thing in some ways but the sides are too flat and slab like. And why do they always have to pick some drab soulless color to show it in? For cryin' out loud GM you can do better. That two tone going on with the yellow mustard-y thing on the display stand is awful though . solid color would do wonders for that I think.

That grille/headlight combo reminds me of the Impala, which has been one of their most cohesive designs since they started putting the dual port grille on everything FWD. They should use this on their more conservative models, and the more Camaro/Blazer design on the sportier ones.
