Here's what to expect from the next Corvette Z06.

Even though the standard Stingray version won’t hit the streets for another few months, we’re already looking ahead to the even-hotter Z06 variant. What we don’t know about the car could fill a book, but there are a few items and rumors that are likely to come true.

First on that list is a twin-turbo V-8 engine based on the Cadillac CT6-V’s Blackwing, though almost definitely not wearing the Blackwing name. Instead, it’s likely to get an LT designation, probably LT7. While that specific isn’t likely to spike your adrenaline, the horsepower output will: Expect the Z06 to pump out 800 horses and a monstrous amount of torque, perhaps approaching—or even surpassing—700 lb-ft. (The current front-engine Z06 is rated for 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft from its supercharged LT4 small-block V-8.)

One big unknown on the Z06’s spec sheet is the transmission. While it’s most likely that Chevy will keep the seven-speed dual clutch found in the Stingray, whispers suggest a 10-speed dual-clutch may be offered. Even more tantalizingly, we’ve heard that the Stingray’s missing manual-transmission option may turn up on the Z06’s option sheet.

I dont think the engine will be BW derived, I think itll be a LT2 derived tt motor.

Hopefully it’s the high revving 6.6 that was slated for the Z/28

To think that Blackwing will be wasted on a handful of V models is laughable honestly

I would expect GM to use it in high performance application with a bit more volume

The late, great, Z28. I wish we had a 2019 Z28 on sale right now but the C8 will do nicely.

Z06 will get an active aero all around the car. Not this rice bs.

And it won't be a top dog also.

I dont consider high spoilers on performance cars ricey. The McLaren Senna has a high spoiler and active aero, pretty sure no one considers that ricey. if it serves a purpose, I wouldn't consider it ricey.

    Well ....

That spoiler looks like it is perfectly placed to block any rearward visibility.

That rear diffuser looks awful, and isn't integrated into the car at all.

The fender vent looks worthless (what good could it possibly do?)

And since the new Corvette took the tailpipes OUT of the middle, I don't see them putting them right back where they used to be.

I think that's what he meant by "ricey". Just a bunch of parts tacked on, and not very well thought-out.

In a post Trump world and especially here on GMI,a place where you can't type G M A U T H O R I T Y without some keyboard gymnastics or call someone a ninny head because they in fact are. I find it amazing the derogatory word "ricey" or "rice burner" is used without a single care.

Not a complaint just an obsevation.

I agree with Bronx13 though. This chop of what the next Z06 could look like does look a bit ricey or as I like to say "Pep Boys elite".

At least I (and everybody else) can still call myself a cracker. There is though an unconfirmed rumor that Mr. Ed committed suicide. Seems all those years of being called a hay burner took it's toll.
It sounded pretty good until I actually said it.

Personally, I'd rather have less power if it meant fewer wings and doo-dads.
Pony Car: an affordable, compact, highly styled car with a sporty or performance-oriented image and an available V8.

This is just a render, and certainly not set in stone. I do imagine it will get a significant, and tall fixed rear wing.
I want a car so violent that the mere thought of full throttle would cause a heart attack. That actually going wide open throttle in would result in nothing less than instant death!

That rendition looks a bit "boy racer" ... like a Subaru. I'd like to see more sophistication.

If buyers were willing to sacrifice top speed then the tall wing might not be necessary. But most buyers want a 200+ mph top end that does require huge downforce to keep it on the ground.

Yeah, you wouldn't need as much power if you weren't dragging your CD down so much.
