Given the Porsche 918 lap times the Z06 has laid, and Ferrari has threatened to sue release comparison laptimes vs. The La Ferrari, there is something political going on about the whole Z06 true capabilities.
    Strange.

    Strange.
On most of the race track Porsche 918 is quicker than any Corvette. In most cases it is the fastest car on a track.
In 2013 (long time ago) Porsche 918 (Weissach Package) set time of 6:57. Only Radical cars are faster. Lamborghini is 2.x slower (it is below 7 min mark). I'm sure if GM has put Corvette anywhere near that time they would published it. Maybe they are waiting for who knows what..

Nothing political here. Ferrari can't do anything about other manufacturers publishing their times on the Nurburgring.

That lap has never been confirmed. We have no idea if the Shelby could actually run that time.

We don't know if it could run that time, faster, or slower as Ford doesn't release official ring times so people should stop comparing that time to anything.

I think this means the CTS-V is faster than the Panamera Turbo as well.

When the C7 ZR1 comes out, they will probably do some updates to the Stingray and the Z06, therefore we might see lap times published, but given the long streaches on the ring, plus top speed of only 186 mph, its likely the current Z06 is not any faster than the old ZR1 which was stupedously fast.. though you could adjust its wing and get faster topspeeds... at the expense of downforce. No doubt with wing adjustment the Z06 can hit 205 mph...

This is all speculation after all..

Eventually there will be faster car than the Porsche 918 (Radicals are already faster but they are more of the racing cars than sports cars). 918 is not even in production anymore. Lamborghini is close enough. Koenigsegg is testing, there is Pagani. Mid engine Corvette with around 700 hp could be there also. New Porsche 911 GT2 RS could also be in plans.

And there was funny business with the original Z/28 lap time too. All the times are suspicious, and totally irrelevant I might add. But this is what we do, we compare apples to oranges before we go shopping...

    Correct.
Unless the two cars are being tested at the same time under the exact same conditions, the results can seem quite at odds with reality.
I doubt that gen5 Z/28 was that much slower but the new ZL1 does have more horsepower and torque...

    Strange.
A lot of money and pride at stake?
If the Z06 was that good, it could be very embarrassing to certain high end brands.
I wouldn't be surprised if Ferrari tickled up one of their cars just to stay in front.......

It's crazy how well planted that car is. It was a easy drive for him.

I was looking to see if the driver was using the paddle shifters & it appears that he isn't. That's impressive of the transmission.

This has been talked about, for the Z/28 run it got causing the driver to back off toward the end of the lap....

It would be safe to say that the Z/28 5th gen is good for 7:30.000 +/- lets say 2 seconds around that lap time.....

Though these are good at getting an idea of what these cars are capable of though not that great for comparing pure performance between them. There really isn't a perfect way to compare cars performance, so we settle on some kind of standard (same day same driver same track being the gold standard).
