The Holden AWD Turbo Diesel Captiva 7 still manages to get decent... traction in the market despite its age.
We check out the value equation and have a look at what you can get for your hard earned $37,490 (dependent on state of residence)

    We like:
Decent Grunt from the 2.2 turbo diesel
    Impressive entry price
Better than average gravel road manners
    5 Star Safety

    Not so flash:
Wheel and seats feel like a bus
    Interior design is old hat
Economy not on par with competition
Backwards second row 40/60 split seat
Evil begets evil Mr. President. Shooting will only make it stronger.

Why this did not get the Equinox interior is beyond me. It seems Reuss is old school and does not think Global.

I think GM are moving toward a more global approach in this next phase of the company. Captiva is still part of the olde guard where there were still regional designs and control centres. Colorado is almost the same story, but now there is GMIO and GMNA. There is no reason why the next generation can't share most if not all of the interior design with North America (barring the position of the driver of course).

If you look at the opportunity for investment when merging company arms, I can see why Captiva would not have/has not been marked as priority. Yes from a local perspective, SUVs should be the main focus of lines in Australia, but the sad truth is that from a global perspective, the Australian market is not.

As future global models come out, however, from now on everyone should be on the same cycle.....more or less.... unless it's Camaro *cough*

Yeah, every car GM has debuted since 2010 or so has been engineered for world markets, including RHD, except any that I have any interest in owning.

BTW GM's small/ mid-size CUV strategy and execution has been a disaster. Rather than capitalize on success by keeping Capitiva, Nox and Terrain fresh, they have let them withr on the vine, while focusing like a laser on the tepid sedan market. How many Malibus will we have had since the Capitiva or Nox debuted? Three plus one major MCE (IIRC)?That's just nuts.

It's a good car but a bit long in the tooth.

Thanks for the video milmak, it does seem that the Captiva is in need of a redesign. And I've never seen one!

You'd think GM could keep the CUVs and give some needed attention to the sedans. maybe they still have to many brands...

However the current strategy is to get an SS for me and a small car for her

    Might work this time

^^^Camry and Accord just eat that segment up. That's a lot of resources trying to build a good car to compete in a segment where a good car isn't necessary for success, only a good reputation. GMs laser isn't pointing in the same direction as customers (CUV/SUV). Would you get a new CTS in Jo'burg if it was available?
