As the latest addition to the Holden lineup, the all new Holden Spark is a marked leap from the Barina Spark it replaces. Aside from accommodation that even I can stretch out in, the diminutive city car brings Apple Carplay and Android Auto as standard. There's even options to customise trim inserts and it's all starting at $13,990. Is this enough to keep the kids interested?

    That's Flash:

It's kind of cute, and the red base model looks cool
    Class leading technology
Easy to drive with plenty of squirt in short order
Excellent manners for a small car
Android Auto will answer all of your stupid questions (watch the vid at the end)

    Not so flash:

CVT can get confused in stop start traffic
White graphic insert is an acquired taste (it polled 50/50)
Back seat behind me was redundant (but I'm 6'6" so...)

One of the enjoyments of my visit to Australia was seeing the full line of the domestically produced Holdens. Even visited the dealership. Those are very handsome cars. A great country too

Glad you enjoyed yourself Greg. Which part/s of Aus did you visit? It's a big country!

More importantly did you get to venture to the outback (which I consider to be anywhere that's primarily red dirt).

It's bigger than the continental US with all the open spaces but with less people than CA. Just did the tourist thing. Adelaide/McLaren Vale and Barossa valley wine regions/ Kangaroo Island then Sydney and Blue Mts.

Now that we're accustomed to RHD will do road trips (we almost always do), Outback and/or rainforest resort in Queensland on our next visit, which will be longer then the 10 days we had. In Adelaide did see signs to Elizabeth and there was some talk of the recent developments there. Got called a bloke for liking the utes and the Australian rules football. One of the few good nations left I think

Thanks Mick for the review. The Spark is generally getting good press but I haven't yet seen one on the road here in Perth.

On another note Holden has released the first pics of the new Astra and it looks as if the Aus version is picking up new front and rear bumpers. At least we get something a little different.

Thanks. I've seen a few around including a kid at my daughters school has a base model 5 speed. Yes, a manual! It is actually pretty good looking for a basic $13990 offering.

Can't wait to get my hands on an Astra. I really liked the VXR and that's the old version so...
