Safety regulators looking at reports of Tesla flaws by Peter Valdes-Dapena @peterdr

Federal auto safety regulators are looking into reports of a flaw in some Tesla models that could cause the driver to lose control of the car.
They're also looking into reports that Tesla (TSLA) has been asking owners to sign non-disclosure agreements before the automaker would pay for repairs.
The agreements reportedly required that vehicle owners don't say anything to anyone about the problem, the repair or even about the agreement itself.
"NHTSA learned of Tesla's troublesome nondisclosure agreement last month," said Bryan Thomas, NHTSA director of communications in a statement. "The agency immediately informed Tesla that any language implying that consumers should not contact the agency regarding safety concerns is unacceptable, and NHTSA expects Tesla to eliminate any such language."

It seems like I have been reading a report each week about "events" in a Tesla. Some seem like user error, some do not.

The nondisclosure agreement was a definite no no, especially in the context it was being used for.

    No surprise @ all.

No real Engineering / sensible Safety Standards for Vehicles and Safety Critical Sub Sytems - such as PT Software and the Hardware it runs on with regard to Safety Critical Failures and oh yeah, you get things like UA / SUA - in Spades. See Toyota - on how not to do it under a 'voluntary system'. See GM for how to do it right - be the best over all with it and in acceptable fashion.

Now throw in Big Batteries, Big Electrical Motors and all that must come with and with all that does produce - is there really any wonder to it all ?

Actually.... couple real easy ways to deal with all this without going to the very best and most expensive approach.

And you could keep that all within the current Voluntary / Honor System we already have.

Late Add : Oops, thought this was about their also budding SUA problem which has also just been in the news - again.

This is where basing Tesla Motors in Silicon Valley came back to bite them hard.

That kind of legal garbage in an agreement is standard in big business software deals. "We'll fix the problem (we caused), but only if you don't tell anyone else about it." Trying to treat car owners or the US National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration that way should land them in hot water.

I've been an unabashed Tesla Motors fan from the beginning. This is the first thing they've did that I don't like, and I hate it. They lost a fan until they publicly admit their error, apologize, and make public everything they tried to conceal.

    * Cough * well, a natural fit of a sort could be had with Toyota or Ford.....

30 cents per 1.00 $ sounds about right .... or at least ..... it did..... have to look now and see if that's high.

I am not shocked by this development in the Tesla fight to become a viable car company. Elon Musk is so arrogent. I hope Tesla goes under. You wont see me ever buying their products regardless as to how highly praised they become in the auto press. Tesla doesn't have the R&D prowess that 80% of the auto industry has, one thing they have in spades though, is the lap dog auto press.
