Is Nissan-Renault tie-up success story overblown?

I wasn't sure if this article had been discussed yet.

IMO, I think the relationship has been okay.

I don't really know - what are we seeing in the US built by Nissan an example of a shared product or component? Based on the article they are not really sharing components or platforms. It also sounds like both companies have their entire headquarters structures - another huge savings if one were shut down. Are they sharing manufacturing facilities anywhere? In other words exactly what are they doing to create these savings? Sounds to me more like Nissan woke up out of its decade of losses in the 90's, developed a good product portfolio and sales increased. Renault hasn't changed much. Carlos Goshen beat his chest and said it was all him.
