SWEET. I own both GM and Nikola stock. GM sells more Ultium products, Nikola can use the 200K tax credits and they both can share their hydrogen expertise. Win-win.

Anyone know if GM gets a piece of Nikola's ZEV's as part of the deal? Not happy with the level of subsidies in ev's, but don't hate the player

Another win for Ultium after big Honda deal...Nice going GM. I don’t know much about Nikola, does this mean they’re basically outsourcing their production to GM? Who takes the hit if Nikola sales flop? The EV pickup space is getting crowded.

I don't doubt that GM has far more hydrogen expertise(and battery) than Nikola but Nikola intends to build hydrogen fueling stations for its hydrogen electric semi's which Anheuser Busch has already committed to purchase 500 trucks.

Hybrid Hydrogen (fuel cell creating electricity, eMotors used for propulsion), makes more sense for a Semi than crap ton of batteries. The two most important: Longer Range + Lighter weight (more freight capacity). Of course the drawback is fueling infrastructure, however that can be overcome in a fleet situation where you are running the same routes everyday and would just intall a fueling station at your terminal, vs over the road where it would be a crap shoot. (Such as Budweiser, Walmart, Target, etc....) Plus the Grid in a lot of places is not prepared for the draw/strain a bunch of plug in Semis would put on the system.

That's exactly Nikola's plan. They sell the trucks to cover very specific routes. Then they build the refueling infrastructure along that route and produce the hydrogen on-site to minimize storage and transport which keeps the cost down.

So with these class 7/8 trucks running back and forth on very specific highway routes, this is also the perfect opportunity for GM to use their autonomous technology. They can run these trucks 24/7.

I believe that is the ultimate plan. I also wonder if GM will get use of the ZEV credits created.

    From the press release, yes:
    https://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/...8-gen2fcs.html
General Motors expects to receive in excess of $4 billion of benefits between the equity value of the shares, contract manufacturing of the Badger, supply contracts for batteries and fuel cells, and EV credits retained over the life of the contract
Also since Nikola is a separate company, Badger buyers can get the full federal tax credit.

We are starting to see GM's vision of how they stay relevant in the future, changing, automotive business. The pact with Honda and now this shows GM will become a manufacturer for others as well as themselves. Nice to finally start seeing some of the positive elements of their plan vs. the less positive that we've seen (exiting segments, reducing engineering for gas engines, etc).

Definitely some good future proofing going on. I can totally see plug in EVs and Hydrogen powered EVs coexisting.

I sold my GM today; sold Nikola a week or so ago, before it's recent dip, missed that "pop".

GM the largest automaker in the world, creating yet another partnership with a Japanese Automaker and a company that's still in gestation; certainly interesting.
