New Cars Most Owners Give Up Within the First Year
    By Julie Blackley
    iseecars.com

In a new study, automotive research firm and car search engine iSeeCars.com found that while only 3.4% of new cars are resold as used within the first year of ownership, German and British luxury vehicles are given up much more frequently.

iSeeCars.com analyzed more than 46 million individual new car sales and determined how many of those new cars were resold as used within the first year with at least 1000 miles on the odometer. The results show that the top 10 models are given up more than 2.5 times the average vehicle.

Eight of the top 10 models are from luxury brands, with an even split from German and British automakers. Nissan, which has two models in the top 10, stands out as the only non-luxury automaker making the list.

Interesting. They seem to make quality the main issue for trading in many of the vehicles. My first thought seeing the first list full of low end Mercedes and BMW's was they were bought by people who couldn't really afford them and traded them in (or repossessed) after finding out they absolutely couldn't afford them.

I'm sure M-B HQ being in Atlanta has something to do with this:

City...................Vehicle.................... ........% Resold Within First Year
    Atlanta, GA........Mercedes-Benz C-Class......33.7%

Which has something to do with, both M-B and the C-Class being so high.

    One year leases?

Lol...the Versa Note is the 1st non lux auto on the list....I can see how that's legit. Every time I drive it I think "this thing sucks I'm not doing this forever" I'll probably be getting rid of mine in less than a year of ownership.

I tend to think it is a bit of both scenarios going on here. Also I find it kind of funny that the two "crap boxes" in the line up of Nissan's made that list. Although the new Versa seems at first look to have finally come into the modern age.

And, to my scenario, both Nissan's are entry level as well - again, people stretching to get themselves into a new car and finding they can't afford it.

And I had the misfortune of driving a Versa - truly a horrible vehicle. It was so loud I thought the windows were down....

Doesn't surprise me at all that low end Benz and BMWs litter the list. Imagine buying one thinking U're getting the "Ultimate Driving Machine" or "Best Luxo" and then realizing.. Oh ****.. I bought this pos

I would like to know what % of the "entry lux" cars are one year lease for sales staff I know a LOT of companies will lease stuff like a 3 series for the sales staff for ONE year terms from companies like "driving force" and other corporate car management companies

It would be nice to know. These are interesting statistics, but I feel like their research only scratched the surface and doesn't fully explain the numbers. Ed's point above probably plays a factor into it too.

The most interesting point is most of these cars are entry level to their segment, and I think that tells us something.

Here's hoping the entry level C8 will buck that trend.
It sounded pretty good until I actually said it.

They have windows? Do they have OnStar too? Or do you have to phone them and then put up with a rude response that "We don't do Nissan!" Krikey!

Appliances for people who see a vehicle as a means of getting from one place to another. As such, the latest greatest means nothing to them, and since Toyota's typically change so little over the years, there is no incentive to get a new one.

Something that can't be measured is enthusiasts. Living in a heavy truck centric state, you see modified F150's and Silverado/Sierra 1500's everywhere. Ram's are somewhere in the middle. You do see Tundra's with mild lifts and bigger wheels / tires. Titans are rarely seen modified. In HD trucks, the Super Duty is the supreme leader in being modified. Nothing else even comes close. As such, when the redesigned versions come out, it is a big Ohhhhhh, I gotta get me one of those. Plus, the domestic trucks are the most likely to be seen on job sites where they are rode hard and put away wet. They need to be replaced more often.

The statistics are interesting though. Interesting observation................. midsize Germans start to be kept at higher percentages as they are more useful as a person's family changes. The one bucking that trend is the Audi A4, which I find interesting.
