Lincoln and Cadillac Are Still Cool Cars in China

The streets of Beijing are teeming with German luxury cars, but Cindy Zhang wanted something *different—something that reminded her of the muscular vehicles she sees on American TV shows like the spy thriller Homeland. So she bought a boldly styled Cadillac XT5 SUV in a color dubbed red passion. “The vehicle looks pretty solid and makes me feel safer,” says Zhang, 29, a primary school teacher. “I don’t know whether those scenes with American cars in the shows helped me with the choice, but it felt natural and right.”

It is sad that American brands are better accepted by a foreign country than at home. And to top it all off, we scorn those sales made in China.

And this shows the power of image, on image alone Cadillac/Lincoln sell in China, and sadly, on image alone they both struggle in the USA. It just shows that you can't allow your brand to be defined by a particular generation, because once that generation becomes old, the cars (or brand) becomes an old persons brand. They need to stay current.

The only Lincoln/Cadillac vehicle that benefits from a ++ movie/TV image in North America would be the Escalade.

Cadillac definitely has a better image than Lincoln due to it's racing program, edgy designs and technology but it really hasn't translated into sales. People in my office who sit in my XT5 seem to genuinely like it but they just keep buying BMW, Mercedes Acura etc.

That's the problem, what does Cadillac and Lincoln do to get people out of their German cars and into an American brand? The Germans offer all the tech available, so Cadillac/Lincoln can't really offer anything additional. The only thing available to Lincoln/Cadillac is pricing and style to get people into their cars. And pricing is a slippery slope, if you sell your vehicles for cheap you cultivate a "cheap luxury" image and will not be able to raise your price.

GM SHOULD have made Super Cruise available on XT4, the new XT5, CT4 and CT5.

That would have set them apart.

Said it before and I will say it again.. . GM as a whole should throw a middle finger to America and just become a Chinese company. Literally give up its corporate citizenship. Americans will dog out everything Caddy does.. They can have a under warranty hiccup with the door locks or a snag in the seat.. And suddenly Cadillac is a pos.. A BMW, Benz or Audi can catch on fire and kill their puppy.. But "oh well.. That's German engineering" The XT6 arguments here are prime examples of what im talking about. The Germans have booku FWD offerings in CUV now.. Cadillac does it. FAILURE

For future reference...its beaucoup (its a cajun thing down here)

Anyway, sans Audi...the Germans do FWD CUVs for their ENTRY LEVEL offerings....Last I checked the XT6 aint entry level. When you see a FWD X5/X7 or GLE/GLS and they get a pass, then that complaint will hold water. Until then, it's a false equivalency.

I've said it before and I say it again: Start by building a new version of the 1959 Caddy, sticking as closely as possible to the original styling.
Modern materials, better aero, new engines and trannies. I bet even Hollywood freaks would buy these.

They'd probably sell 50,000 the first year, they'd increase their visibility 1000%, and finally they'd have something back on the roads that LOOKS LIKE A CADILLAC.

    I do not jest.

They're doing their best. And if you honestly and earnestly believe the Chicommies would let GM survive and flourish there, you don't know much about reds.

From my understanding super cruise will be available on the CT5-V and CT4-V.
I am on the border of genius and crazy. I keep trying to cross over into genius, but ICE keeps sending me back to the crazy side of the border.

Actually CT5 (non-V version) will get it in 2020 according to at least one site, not sure if it is a mid year update or in the 2021 MY in Sept of 2020.

Perceived reputation is another thing starting from way back when, and is now not so much of an issue but the damage was done.

to the first part and I say true to the second. I tend to think that one of these days this thing is going to come back and give GM a great big bite in the butt.

CT5 only and not at launch.

Should be available on all of their new vehicles. That kind of tech would set Cadillac apart!
