Hummer may soon return from the dead -- with an electric jolt.

Reuters reported Friday that General Motors will begin the production of a lineup of high-end electric pickups and SUVs in 2021 that could include a reboot of the Hummer brand, according to sources familiar with the plans.

The trucks would be built at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant that had been “unallocated” prior to the start of the ongoing contract negotiations with the United Auto Works, Reuters said.
GM shelved the Hummer brand in 2010 during its bailout-backed reemergence from bankruptcy.

In June, General Motors president Mark Reuss said “I love Hummer,” and that the market for electric trucks is “massive.”

If true, there is nothing to say other than "cool"!

I still see quite a few Hummers on the road - love them!

Is a Hummer any worse than someone with an immense V8 pickup or screaming yellow sports car? To each their own, they were popular and a good brand to bring back. Also a brand that can command high prices.

With EVERYTHING going to Trucks & SUV's, and presumably all electric, how [many] brands does GM need?

Hummer; like old electric sub-station next to my uncle's house, that always hums?............

Why does GM need a Jeep competitor with gas engines but not electric?

    Is this a trick question?

Because 17 million vehicles sold a year are gas?

But again, if GMC is going EV, what's the benefit of Hummer, other than one-more too-many bands to manage?

So if they stay ICE, you are ok with an ICE Hummer and ICE GMC? It's not a trick question, I don't see the difference. I feel like you are saying if a vehicle is electric they are all the same, brand identity goes away.

No, it would be redundant, regardless; why can't GM compete with Jeep in the GMC or Chevrolet Brand, for like the last 10 years?

GM, one of the largest auto manufacturers in the world, can't compete with Fiat!?

Not to repeat myself, but................ "like I said"

With EVERYTHING going to Trucks & SUV's, and presumably all electric, how [many] brands does GM need?

The same can be said about Buick, TODAY - With EVERYTHING going to Trucks & SUV's, how many brands of CUV's does GM need?

Re: Hummer may return as electric truck brand, report says

This doesn't make any sense. GM can build EVs of any brand, why would they need to introduce Hummer? If Hummer will ever come back it needs to be targeted squarely at Jeep, starting with a Wrangler and Gladiator competitor. There can be EV Hummers, but EVs can't be Hummer's raison d’ętre.

Considering their market share they have too many brands now let alone adding another.

It's more about why Hummer, and who's showroom will it be sold in, and why not just make it that brand's vehicle in the first place. If you're going to spend money to tool up a new skin and badges, why not pull from the whatever brand's shelf and save a ton whilst achieving the same goal.

Buick brand for instance, will pull in the same amount of money that GMC and Cadillac will and they won't have to lay out a ton of cash to build a whole new Hummer brand.

Actually there's another definition for the name 'Hummer'. Prolly have to look it up in the Urban Dictionary though.
It sounded pretty good until I actually said it.

An electric Hummer seems to miss the point of Hummer. GM marketing just trying to cash in on established names, instead of building their own stuff.
