Barra made the comment this week at the North American International Auto Show (NAIAS) and added that the platform will also be used for the company’s autonomous program at the Deutsche Bank Global Auto Industry.

The CEO said that they are not ready to announce new models yet, but they are “coming”:

“The Bolt is our platform that we’re going to continue on and have a huge range of vehicles. We haven’t announced them yet, but you’re going to see more coming.”

Additionally, Barra is linking the Bolt EV platform closely with its autonomous program:

“We believe we have the right vehicle platform for AV, we think the only long -term sustainable path for autonomous vehicle is fully electric and we are obviously in a leadership position with the Bolt and all of our AV development that’s going on is based on the Bolt platform.”

That's what I'm wondering. After the whole ELR fiasco, I'd think that Cadillac would be a little cautious of repeating that mistake.

Isn't it supposed to be a crossover? A ULC could be n e a t a f and, if they wanted a captive ride-sharing service without really compromising their brand, it'd be a pretty good choice.

I'm going to remember those words in coming months.

    "Huge range".

I hope she meant it, otherwise this will be another promise not carried through. The midsize premium crossover is the obvious form factor to attack next....

If it's going to be a Cadillac, just make it AWD and not FWD

I think it depends on the application. I expect it to be a retail application as you do, so AWD is necessary, but if they wanted a "service" car, it's pretty irrelevant what drives the wheels as long as it can get around which, in the city, usually means with anything anywhere as the streets are typically pretty clear.

Sure makes you wonder; especially with the "lack of offspring" we've saw from the Volt..............

Not to mention, does GM know what is the real "appetite" is for pure EV? I see it as a niche of the slightly larger niche of Hybrid, PHEV, EV.

One last thought; can a pure EV autonomous vehicle plug itself in?

I was also thinking of the ULC. I was not a fan of it because of the styling however the idea of a 2 seater (not sure if a 4 or 5 seater is appropriate) like that could give Cadillac a jump on that market.

Yup, but in my 3 years of Volt ownership; outside of my own house, I've plugged our Volt in 2 times............ both were at our cabin.

    First they will charge themselves...
    Then they will repair themselves...
Then we are like, you know, screwed.

It wasn't a mistake from a strategic standpoint, but a big one in terms of execution...

Although to counter your point about Volt, we now have the 'Bu and the CT6 PHEV using Voltec derived stuff; and I believe the eAssist trucks are using a mild form of Voltec...
