GM Is Thinking About Building an Electric Hummer

A zero-emission Hummer sounds as paradoxical as non-alcoholic whiskey, but General Motors Co. is mulling over the idea of building an electric vehicle that would bring the defunct gas-guzzling brand back to life.

For now, it’s just an idea GM is considering as it plans which vehicles will be included in a fleet of electrified SUVs and trucks, say people familiar with the matter. The Hummer name has surfaced as way to tap growing demand for rugged SUVs with off-road capabilities, while avoiding the gasoline-burning image that made the brand something of a pariah a decade ago, said the people, who asked not to be named because the conversations are private.

It’s a no brained, especially if it’s Hydrogen powered and does not have to carry silly batteries to the mall.

I think it's a great idea. Part of the reason why they killed it was because of its unwarranted rep for being too expensive in fuel costs... Which was ridiculous considering the people who were buying cared less about fill-up costs.

Let's do it right this time.

Hummer buyers are in Cadillac territory as far as income and wealth go. Put the new Hummer vehicles in Cadillac dealerships and get a quick response with minimum investment. A "Hummer by Cadillac" nameplate buried deep in the body somewhere, can also help drive Cadillac sales and help rejuvenate the brand.

People who buy Escalade units are probably the same target market for the new Hummer. Who cares which one they buy, as long as GM gets the sale...and mega-profit per unit.

Please GM, no stand-alone division/dealerships this time. Give this off-shoot to Cadillac.

    This explains everything.

    Bloomberg:
Earlier this year, GM was negotiating to form a joint venture with Rivian Automotive Inc., a startup electric-truck maker based outside Detroit. When the deal fell apart, GM accelerated development of its own battery-powered pickup and SUV program.

I think I’d rather see the development dollars going to a Wrangler-type vehicle—two and four door—rather than spending the development $$ on another large vehicle. Call it a Hummer if you must.

Development cost. Most of the hard work has been done by Rivian already.

Please, not another division that they're gonna wind up closing again. Good thing these things never really get taken off-road: I haven't seen too many charging stations out in the woods. A 5 gallon jerrycan a lot easier to bring with you then 1000 lbs of batteries.

And a Hummer doesn't have to be yooj like the original tactical vehicle. Didn't they have about three Hummers of various, stepped-down sizes?

A 'lektrik Hummer would or could be a fad vehicle, like the Tesla. What's faddish? Green. 'lektrik. Manly. Exclusive, neighbors don't all have one. Like tesla, except for the masculine part.

This could go well IF promoted right, which GM has about zero skill in pulling off. Hand off the promotion campaign to one of the ad agencies that do the various insurance ads.
GM keep hands off, you're just too stupid to manage PR.
