GM sells shuttered Ohio plant to EV truck start-up

    https://news.yahoo.com/gm-sells-shut...l&uh_test=1_04

Looks like a done deal for Lordstown. With GM, Ford and Tesla all working on EV pickups, I figure Workhorse will be chapter 11 in a year.

How modern and flexible is it? If they are going to have to replace everything why even buy an existing factory?

Price probably wasn't too high. You have workers available that know assembly. Finally, I am sure the government threw in a pile of cash, as is tradition.

Because they probably about gave it to 'em.
Now they have to find the money to build something in it.

Ugh. GM should be making the Blazer and Trax in Lordstown.

I'm just about done with GM. Their importing more cars then ever.
"The car's brilliant and ... a great surprise, pleasant surprise for all Corvette lovers everywhere ... a huge shock to our competitors ... because I don't think anybody was expecting something that good. What pleases me the most about it was that ... I can say this is the first car that's come out, that was done since I left.

GM already owned and it, yet it was too costly for them to do anything with it, or so we were led to believe..............

And then find people's money to buy the stuff they build?

It is outright betrayal, especially after the taxpayer paid bailout. Yes, they repaid most of it, but they better not come asking again. Next time around, let them fail.

According to this https://www.thebalance.com/auto-indu...rysler-3305670 we are still short 10 billion

I thought you were all into socialism and propping up your fellow country-men with welfare and stuff? Where are all those union people going to work if GM goes under?

Ideally, the government would have seized GM and it would have become state-owned. China has publicly-traded car companies, privately-held car companies and state-owned car companies. GM would become state-owned and it will have its factories in the US.

What I oppose is giving free many to rich people and their companies. Like what the US government does with Tesla and SpaceX.

What part of GM becoming state-owned was not a good enough response for you? It would have been a better deal for the workers and unions. Instead GM took the taxpayer's money and still outsourced manufacturing. The next time they go bankrupt that's what should happen. They can even name it Border Wall Motors, just like how China has Great Wall Motors, which despite the name is not state-owned.

By the way, if you have iPhone or Mac, you hold e key and select the second one in the popup to get é, also you used the wrong diacritic, it is é not è. Now that's touché

The lack of commitment by elites in big industries, big media, big college, big union and big politics to regular working people in US, Canada, Australia and UK is totally unfathomable.

There is need for substantial political reform, especially of the civil service.

If GM goes under? Why does that matter, once GM closes all their US plants................ Probably the same place; Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Honda or Hyundai.

You are almost there, a lot of liberals are wising up to the realities of capitalism.

Just look at this tweet by prominent liberal TV personality Tucker Carlson "Jeff Bezos is the richest man in the world. Many of his employees are so poor, you’re paying their welfare benefits. And he’s not the only tech billionaire offloading his payroll costs onto taxpayers. This is an indefensible scam." [emphasis mine]

Or this tweet by liberal TV personality Bill O'Rielly "capitalism is destroying the world"

There's definitely an awakening among liberals, it is just as with your post, they get so close but still fall short of the finish line.

Join us comrade. We have nothing to lose but our chains.
