GM’s 2019 sales decline on discontinued cars, lower Chevrolet sales

DETROIT – General Motors’ U.S. vehicle sales declined 2.3% last year compared with 2018, including a 6.3% year-over-year drop in the fourth-quarter.

Sales for the company’s Buick, Cadillac and GMC brands were flat or slightly up, while the company’s largest brand, Chevrolet, declined 3.8%. Most notably, sales of the redesigned Chevrolet Silverado were down by about 2.6%, including a 7.5% drop for its heavy-duty pickup models.

Well when you announce to the world you are canceling all of your passenger cars what do you expect?! Who wants to buy something new that's discontinued? The trucks? Fix the interior!

    https://media.gm.com/media/us/en/gm/...3-gmsales.html
Fourth quarter North American wholesales declined an estimated 25 percent year over year, due to the 40 day United Auto Workers work stoppage. This includes the company’s newly launched heavy-duty full-size pickups, which were off approximately 17 percent.
At the end of the 3rd quarter GM was up 6.3% for the quarter and only down 0.8% for the year. If it wasn't for the strike GM would be up over last year.

The interior will get upgraded with the new electric architecture in 2021.

With all the stocking they did before the strike, I doubt you can blame that. GM better address the high prices.

I think the strike was a good opportunity to work down inventory levels,
still not good but far less long term impact than most expect.

GM let UAW officials walk away, knowing that would impact their business
far more than the concessions they finally agreed to including the cash offered.
Permanently closing three plants was far more important.

B.S. inventories still haven't fully recovered yet, our local lots have many empty spaces still

I disagree, all you heard everyday for weeks and weeks on the news was "strike" "strike" "strike" "GM is losing 100's of millions" "strike" "strike" "strike" "GM is losing billions" "strike" "strike" "strike". Everyday for weeks and weeks..... They lost quite a bit of sales, it's really undeniable.

Obviously the 40 day strike cost a lot of money and a lot of lost sales.

Anyone ignoring the strike as the major if not sole contributor to lost sales for 2019 they are dreaming.

The lack of sedans really hits home for 2020. Same for the major shift to electric vehicles the rise in vehicle pricing will create an issue for unit sales drop.

The entire automotive industry is in for a shock with the continued rose in pricing and its only going to get worse as ev’s begin to flood the market in the next few years.

2022 is GM s launch date for 22 new electric vehicles.

2020 Is definitely going to be an interesting year for all manufacturers. Lack of sedans, EVs arriving, Gas prices are expected to spike with this Iran thing, It's an election year and most people don't buy major purchases in election years.

I have been in the market for a new vehicle so I have been in quite a few lots. The lack of inventory has been eye opening.

There has been some progress here. GM's Alpha platform vehicles (Camaro, CT4, CT5) have undergone pricing adjustments to improve their value proposition. Additionally, GM's sales incentive spend overall increased significantly toward the latter part of 2019, exceeding 14% in Q4.

GM did not let the (corrupt) UAW walk away. The UAW ignored GM’s latest offer, refusing to consider it - then called a strike and walked away. The UAW was trying to divert attention away from the numerous ongoing Federal criminal investigations and felony indictments of their members.

GM and the UAW alienated numerous GM customers - just ask anyone who couldn’t get their GM vehicle repaired at the dealer due to lack of parts.

It was clear that the UAW had no concern for the customers that buy the vehicles that they make.

Okay I hate the UAW but....

It's GM's job to please the customers, the UAW's job is to take care of their members (and siphon off dues to the corrupt leadership's slush fund)
