Why bother with less than 10 speeds at this point in time? Everyone is moving to them with regular transmissions.

Interesting, if they are going all-in on electrics, why patent a dct?

You can use a transmission on an electric car, this allows you to extend the speed range for your electric car. This is why the new Tesla speedster has a transmission in it (or it wouldn't be able to hit those 200+MPH speeds).

With that being said you are going to have ICE and electric cars on the market at the same time, on top of that the vehicles that will stay ICE the longest are niche vehicles so those can get DCTs.

It allows smaller more efficient electric motors to be used, maybe reducing battery size / weight /cost?

Yeah, I don't understand why they're not already using multi-speed transmixers in 'lektriks. It makes them more efficient overall, and as you say would then allow smaller motors and perhaps smaller batteries. It adds to complexity, but you don't get something for nothing.

This could be the transmission in the C8.

I am assuming this is still a problem, but there have been durability issues due to full/flat TQ from 0 RPM. Add in the additional weight that decreases range, plus the complexity and there you go.

Maybe a version of the 2-speed Powerglide that they used in the 409 Chevy? Two is twice as much as one.
