No, no, no, no! GM only lays people off in the USA and only invests in China and Brazil, delete this story, I don't want to hear it! It isn't true!

GM makes $300 million investment to produce new Chevrolet EV based on Bolt EV

General Motors has announced a $300 million investment to produce a new Chevrolet electric vehicle that will be based off an ďadvanced versionĒ of the Bolt EV architecture.
The money will go to GMís Orion Township, Mich. plant, where the Bolt EV is currently made. GM said the investment will bring 400 new jobs to the plant, where the new EV will be produced in addition to the Bolt EV.

This will never get the same amount of press that we saw back in November when they were rumored to have closed all of these plants... now we are seeing that money and employees were simply shifted in some of these plants. Smdh at so many jumping the gun

to produce a new Chevrolet electric vehicle
Wasn't Cadillac supposed to lead the EV charge for GM? Yet, no word on where those Cadillac EVs would be built but we have an investment for a new Chevy EV.

The cynic in me thinks this announcement was 1) pulled ahead to counter the bad press around plant closings etc. and 2) Cadillac EVs will come from China. I hope I'm wrong, especially on #2.

So basically u're saying that GM should have completely scrapped the bolt because it's a Chevy... and the announcement about Cadillac.. start up the new Cadillac line and then maybe go back to making the Bolt? That makes zero sense.

Given all of the negative press Mary Barra has taken for plant closings why is this happening now? It is a classic example of a lack of strategy and GM stepping all over what should be good news. or as emh said it is just a feeble attempt to counter the bad press and maybe GM will "change" its plans before it actually happens. I hope not.

GM if U're listening.. Scrap the jobs altogether.. The jig is up.. Those people who will continue to get a paycheck won't be happy knowing that they are paying their mortgage, putting food on the table, or paying for their kid's college with money they earned on a goof, save face, and PR nightmare diversion

The Cadillac EV is on an all new EV platform. This Chevy EV is based on the Bolt platform.

400 jobs, Lordstown alone was over triple that amount................. Does Orion still run that 2-tier wage dealio?

Besides, do you think GM offers to pay, moving you across the country to a job that, as of today, still doesn't exist?

No what he is saying is "GM Said" that the CHEVY Volt has been cancelled, and CADILLAC will be leading GM's EV onslaught; an announcement of ANOTHER CHEVY on a modified Bolt platform, seems a little "confusing".

Yea,lets do the math: 15K laid off at 5 plants and a few hundred will be hired and soon fired when another EV is produced that no one will buy. Many sections of Detroit are ghost towns, and being bulldozed to be used as community farming plots. Detroit is never coming back.

Let's not forget the domino effect when the towns of Lordstown and Oshawa go into recession when all the other businesses close up.
