Ghosn says enough: Escaped 'injustice' in Japan for Lebanon

    He's %$&^ out!

Tired of the Japanese picking on him, he's gonna live out his days in luxury in Lebanon.

Ghosn says he escaped 'injustice' in Japan; Lebanon calls arrival a private matter
    Issam Abdallah, Tim Kelly
    DECEMBER 30, 2019
    Reuters.com

BEIRUT/TOKYO (Reuters) - Ousted Nissan boss Carlos Ghosn said on Tuesday he had fled to Lebanon to escape a “rigged” justice system in Japan, raising questions about how one of the world’s most-recognized executives had slipped away while on bail.

Ghosn’s abrupt departure marks the latest twist in a year-old saga that has shaken the global auto industry, jeopardised the alliance of Nissan Motor Co Ltd and top shareholder Renault SA and increased scrutiny of Japan’s judicial system.

“I am now in Lebanon and will no longer be held hostage by a rigged Japanese justice system where guilt is presumed, discrimination is rampant, and basic human rights are denied,” Ghosn, 65, said in a brief statement on Tuesday.

“I have not fled justice - I have escaped injustice and political persecution. I can now finally communicate freely with the media, and look forward to starting next week.”

Tokyo officials have previously said the system is not inhumane and that Ghosn, who is facing trial on financial misconduct charges he denies, has been treated like any other suspect.

It was unclear how Ghosn, who holds French, Brazilian and Lebanese citizenship, was able to orchestrate his departure from Japan. He had been under strict surveillance by authorities while out on bail and had surrendered his passports.

Amen. His "fair" trial would take place after a few years of solitary and browbeating and threats to his family. Why have Western Civilizations adopted Soviet Union type prosecution tactics?

The better question might be... how did he pull this off?
Of course the answer is this:

    Re: Ghosn says enough!!

I said enough already when he unleashed the Nissan scourge across the country. Putting every bad driver in *hitt* ugly cars they could drive let alone afford the upkeep on,but did he stop?..NO! and now those same terrible drivers are terrorizing the streets in better looking Mitsubishis.

I hope the Japanese keep playing with him till he croaks...I don't feel bad for that rich greed butthole at all.

The Japanese justice system is not known to be corrupt at all. Me thinks this bozo is likely guilty of something. He is a pretty strange dude.

I'm not a fan of his, but I'm glad he got out. It's hard to know without being a fly on the wall and witnessing everything, but my gut tells me the Japanese are not playing fairly.

Maybe its not, but that article shows a heck of a lot of corruption and human rights violations. I don't doubt he is guilty of one thing or another, but I certainly don't think his punishment fit the crime. This was a corporate coup d e'tate, orchestrated by Nissan Loyalists and the Japanese Govt, who didn't want to lose control of the company to Renault. Japan justice system + PM look like $hit.

It's going to get ugly now that Ghosn will no longer be silenced.
Who woulda thunk that this arrogant jerk would end up becoming a sympathetic figure?

On the bright side, if Japan wants all foreigners out of their executive ranks, they're probably gonna get their wish.

And don't forget they have the Summer Olympics there in July. Such a bad look.

Rich guys end up in jail only if they pissed off some other more powerful rich guys, regardless on the local legal system. The rest is just a narrative for media outlets.

Ha! You have a good point there! Though I think China and Russia simply don't care, I bet if Goshn starts making headlines during the Olympics then the Japanese will care, they seem to like to keep things like this quiet.

They don't care. They blatantly cheated while the Olympics was going on and are now paying the price for it. China Olympics were a successful PR stunt, nothing significantly bad happened around the event - that was let out. Of course we know they were doing all kinds of nasty things on the hush hush.

    +1
With a score of 73, Japan was among the least corrupt Asian nation-states in last year's Corruption Perceptions Index.

That's a better score than the U.S., which is no longer among the 20 least corrupt countries and territories.
