Germany Plans Aid for Struggling Auto Industry

    From Automotive News Europe
Germany Plans Aid for Struggling Auto Industry

BERLIN -- Chancellor Angela Merkel's government is preparing measures to aid workers in Germany's struggling auto sector, according to the labor ministry.

Labor Minister Hubertus Heil plans to introduce wage subsidies for automakers and their suppliers to prevent possible job losses if the downturn in the sector continues, his ministry said in response to questions from Bloomberg.

Subsidize the auto industry??? What effect will this have on imports to the USA? I don't think Trump is going to like this agenda one bit.

Also mentioned in the article is the projected loss of 4100 jobs at Opel. Who would have guessed that? LOL

No worries! Master of the Universe Angela the Angel has everything under control.

And there's 4000 or 400,000...time to re-think the Central Planners' Master Plan For Electrification? After centuries, so many don't grok what Central Planning does to a nation.

Poor German automakers. If I only had had more money one year ago, I would have bought a new CLS (not a used one) to support Daimler.

that ain't right... between cheating with things like emissions and this, no wonder the German's are unstoppable. Their financial engineering is much better than their actual engineering.

It's a good thing for Germany's competitors, because that kind of government intervention will only weaken Germany further.

Not sure who needs aid over there other than a dying Opel.

BMW, Merc and Audi all sell around 2 million units each annually. None of them are truly struggling. In fact all 3 posted gains for 2019.

Germany has lost loads of auto workers jobs recently as EV's only half the labor to assemble them with less components. VW restructured for thier EV car future by getting rid of think it was 30,000 jobs the lions share went from Germany.

Opel are looking to Merkel & the German taxpayers LOL somethings never change, Carlos Tavares PSA CEO said it's cost twice as much to produce a car at German Opel plant compared to producing it at a French Citroen/Peugeot plant.

Opel Group: Just give us another $5 billions to keep on save German workers and we will be the best selling brand in Europe in 5 years time, you just wait & see!

Carlos Tavares won't take any prisoners he is a tough cookie won't want short term Merkel's/German taxpayers hand outs bribes he just announced another 4,100 German jobs are on the radar to go at PSA at the moment.

The young German children don't seem to care much aspire to owning a shiny new BMW in Germany these days Neanderthal no need to worry about them, they never grew up watch exiting batmobile's winning touring car racing like their German boomers did.

Climate protests: Germany's new green youth movement takes to the streets

    Students ditching class to protest

    An environmentally conscious generation

In fact, teenagers in Germany are more interested in politics than they have ever been before. The topic of environmental protection interests them the most, says youth researcher Klaus Hurrelmann from the Hertie School of Governance, who has spent years studying the changing values, attitudes and habits of Germany's youth.

Lena and Leonie, both 15-years-old, are from Cologne's surrounding region. They are far from veteran climate activists — in fact, this is their very first demonstration. But this is an important topic that appeals to everyone, "even if you are not very well informed," they say.

This has become a common scene in many large cities — students eschewing lessons at school to protest for climate protection. They were inspired by Swedish student Greta Thunberg who doesn't go to school on Fridays, instead opting to protest against climate inaction in front of the parliament in Stockholm — with her textbooks of course. She's even started a new movement called "Fridays For Future."

The interests of the younger generation extend to all areas that have to do with the environment, explains Hurrelmann. Whether its plastic pollution in our oceans, the death of insects due to the rise of industrial agriculture or just global warming.

    Parents with a guilty conscience

So who failed? The politicians? The parents? The grandparents? And who needs to take action? The answers to these questions are always the same: All of us. "Of course, there are some people who can do much more than others," said Hannah. "But you can't put the blame on individuals, it's a group effort," Lara pointed out.
Most young people at these protests do not harbor any anger toward their parents. Instead, they look at what they can do at home to help the environment and their families are often supportive of their ideas. Some teenagers' parents now also try to eat less meat, or leave their car at home when they can bike or take public transport instead.

The message these young people hope to send to the older generation is increasingly clear: By not doing enough to help the environment, you are gambling away our future.

I think the Boomers in Europe grew up when cars had a more that were designed with a more emotional attachment loved cars wanted play round tune up Mk1 Mini's, Mk1 Cortina's, Mk 1 Escorts & Mk1 Capri's that probably all got destroyed probably by none other than Bob Lutz who moved from BMW to Ford of Europe introduced removed the emotional attachment to cars with the anodyne release of the Ford Sierra jellymould that removed that emotional attachment to car design. Ford's market share in places like the UK dropped from 32% to 16% almost overnight, at the time a lot of people thought Lutz was sent by BMW to sabotage Ford's high sales and high profitably. Sad to say just like the US its the Boomer generation are the main buyers of car in Europe.

I think a lot of Europe's younger generation the children have absolutely no interest owning a car in the future you don't have to feel sorry for them, they have only grown up knowing dull boring bland Opel's they just see them as an ugly blot on thier parents drives. Maybe GM should get more into making buses, Apple smart phones & I-pads that have that same emotional attachment as the boomer generation had with cars if they want to crack the Europe of tomorrow. Children seem to want to ban cars, but want thier parents taxi when it's convenient somethings never change.

Can't say l blame them, a boring bland anodyne Opel is enough drive any young German into becoming a member of Friends of the Earth climate change protester in Europe, if l was 15 years old today and faced the next 50 years of the same ole stale bland Opel's car designs l would probably feel the same as the children in Europe do today.

Schools now brainwash, they subtract from the chirruns' brains and turn out programmed misinformed robots like Greta the Actress. Time and time again we see that when the government's start picking favorites so to speak, that it ends up a disaster for the public and the other players.
