China quality agency says Shanghai GM recalls 233,000 cars to fix faulty fuel lines, fire risk

By The Associated Press (CP) 15 minutes ago

SHANGHAI Shanghai General Motors Co., a joint venture between General Motors Co. and Shanghai Automotive Industrial Corp., is recalling nearly 233,000 vehicles in China to fix faulty fuel lines that could cause engine failures or fires.

China's General Administration of Quality Inspection and Quarantine, which oversees product quality, said in a notice issued Monday that the recall involves 133,074 2-litre and 2.4-litre Regal sedans made between Sept. 18, 2008 and Oct. 14, 2010 and 99,857 2.4-litre LaCrosse sedans made from April 20, 2009 to Oct. 14, 2010.

The notice says the faulty fuel pipes can break under extreme conditions, causing the engines to malfunction and that resulting oil leaks could also cause fires.

This from the people that gave us poisonous dog food, lead in baby toys and contaminated dry wall. I guess if it is going out of the country is doesn't matter as much.
When buying a car it is best to be loyal to yourself above others. Things like driving pleasure, past personal experience, personal comfort and perceived value are far more important than where or who made your car. Remember, when the new wears off the payments persist. When manufacturers stop getting judged on those qualities, they stop making a superior product. Anyone who makes purchase decisions based solely on national origin is deserving of whatever junk they get.
