Something else jumped out @ me statwise... the CT5 is 8 inches longer than the 3 w/ a 4 inch WB advantage, yet it only has 2" more rear legroom and its trunk is almost 6 cu ft smaller. Something doesn't add up.
I was looking at the new 3 series (in pictures) recently, pondering exactly how the CT5 could have such a small trunk compared to it?

Absolutely, and in the context of chassis tuning for CT4/CT5, keeping things "as is" from the ATS/3rd gen CTS would still make them best in class.

My initial concern about dumbed down chassis tuning in CT5 came from this statement in GM's press release:

I am just hoping that "improve road isolation" doesn't imply "softening the suspension to deliver more isolation".

Agree in spirit and funny yoke, but would change some of the classifications.

No one.. not ever.. Its the same size as a 3 series and C-Class for all intents. Both of which could be compared in size to the Cruze or Civic

If this car handles like an ATS with a proper back seat, a nice interior and a bigger trunk it should sell much better.

I was all ready to plunk down cash for an ATS until I sat in that horrible back seat.

They would not go back from the 640 at least for the CT6...

Just curious, assuming you are not driving from the back seat, who was going to use it while you are driving?

Ok...I lied, the one thing I would change from the ATS-V was the engine, I'd rather see a LT1 w/ a performance exhaust over the 3.6TT. I just wish they'd stop trying to emulate BMW and just be Cadillac...unapolgetically American.

    y u no blackwing 500hp 553tq

honestly though, I think it was handling. The V6 can be tucked behind the axle, V8 due to packaging not so much.

I'm dying for a no holds barred battle between ATS and Camaro, settle the debate once and for all.

For the CT4-V...probably too heavy, the LS series engines are notoriously light/small for their output.

Well your comment got me to thinking. This might be a strategy of building demand for non-V CT4s by initially only offering the CT4-V. So build cachet with the 4-V, and then put out the regular CT4 so those who can’t afford the V are able to get something similar.

Would you call the 5 series a midsize?
The 3 series has historically considered a compact and is larger than the ATS.

Well, the thing we have to remember with CT6-V is that it is really a CT6-Vsport. Carlisle renamed it V because he’s GM company man, and inevitably that means to cheapen a great badge.

Looking at the CT5 the difference between it and the CTS is that it is a bit de-contented in comparison (for example no trizone climate control). Performance wise it looks to be very bit as good as the CTS (although the standard engine is weaker than the 2.0T on the CTS, but the V-6 has substantial more torque than the V-6 on the CTS). So, I am, as of now, confident that it will be a track beast, probably much better than the re-badged CT6-V. I suspect that the CT4 will be closer to the ATS-V, performance wise.

He did it because of the Y strategy. There are no more VSports. I always questioned the need anyway, especially when the VSport name was not attached to the ATS, which was essentially the torch bearer for Cadillac performance as the 3 Series is for BMW. Also.. Typically the larger exec cars are not as powerful as the mid-size, which is normally the most potent, while the smaller one is the most agile. 550hp/627lb-ft in an awd, 204inch saloon is gonna be great
