Elon Musk said he was overworked when he called a British diver and cave explorer a "pedo guy" in a tweet to his millions of followers, as the Tesla CEO defended himself on Wednesday at his defamation trial.
In his second day of testimony in Los Angeles federal court, Musk again expressed regret for the tweet and other comments criticizing the plaintiff Vernon Unsworth, and said he had "absolutely not" been accusing him of pedophilia.
Under questioning from his lawyer Alex Spiro, Musk said it took him "minutes" to write his tweets, amid a "very extreme" 80 to 100 hours a week schedule running Tesla Inc., which makes electric cars, and the SpaceX rocket company.
"I wouldn't recommend it," Musk said about his schedule.
Musk's "pedo guy" tweet is one of three tweets that Unsworth has said defamed him and harmed his reputation. He is seeking unspecified damages.
The chief executive of electric carmaker Tesla Inc and founder of rocket company SpaceX also acknowledged in a packed Los Angeles federal courtroom his net worth, mostly from stock holdings in those two companies, was about $20 billion.
Re: BREAKING: Tesla's CEO Blames Nasty Tweet On "Overwork"
I'd rather this not be settled out of court, nothing better than an over privileged spoiled brat getting what they deserve. Hope there is jail time, he's definitely the type that would not do well in prison.

I don't buy it, Musk knew exactly what he was saying and he got the shyts when his submarine idea was dismissed by this guy as impractical in this situation. It was deliberate, malicious and intended to discredit and defame the guy who was actually involved in rescue work.

This is what comes of sleeping on the floor under your desk for weeks at a time. A shower, a change of clothes, and a loving wifey like Cher to guide Young Elonstein around the potholes of life, and he wouldn't be in court making up :001_9898:crap.
Young Elonstein!!!! CALL CHER!!!!
Plus trashing a guy who's in the business of saving lives in a rather heroic fashion, in what was a scary claustrophobic craphole of a cave complex while you have armed guards all over the place, it's what dumbasses do.
Re: BREAKING: Tesla's CEO Blames Nasty Tweet On "Overwork"
I hope the diver gets everything he's asking for. Elon Musk is really not a nice person although he tries to portray he is. If another CEO from another company did what he's done in the past, he'd be in jail.

Looking back at CEOs and politicians of US for the past 30 years makes me think totally otherwise. And since you posted that list, where is the list for GM ?
How can you tell he's not a nice person ? LOL, maybe he's impulsive, but he also revolutionized the car industry when all manufactures were stagnant and out of ideas. And he made space exploration way more affordable than NASA ever could.
Damn you Elon for changing the world with more than words and prayers, you nasty !

This is all freaking bananas...tin foil levels of crazy. He was a rich guy looking at spending the rest of his life in prison as a sex offender involving underage girls. Instead of facing prison...he offed himself. Not sure why this is far fetched

There is security video showing his cell block and that no one entered or left his cell the whole night so there's that. This is Obama's fault if he installed a panda cam in his cell for the world to see this wouldn't have happened :yup:
And I thought GMI hit the bottom of the ****ter when "they" said Mary Barra was made CEO so Hillary would win the election... This is a whole new level of ****hole.
Re: BREAKING: Tesla's CEO Blames Nasty Tweet On "Overwork"
Your welcome to make a list of GM lies and deceptions. I can tell you it won't be long compared to Tesla even in spite of GM being in business a lot longer. Tesla lies for the purpose of manipulating it's stocks and was fined just for doing that. Their has been other infractions. Just read the list.
If Tesla is so smart why do other companies not use it open source patents? The answer is because they are not new ideas. FYI, Tesla took the skateboard design from GM, and never mention it.
Re: BREAKING: Tesla's CEO Blames Nasty Tweet On "Overwork"
The Tesla CEO told jurors that he called Vernon Unsworth “pedo guy” because he was upset the spelunker had belittled his efforts to build a mini-submarine to transport the boys to safety. The sub was never used and Unsworth called it nothing more than a “PR stunt” and said Musk could stick the craft “where it hurts.”
“It was wrong and insulting, so I insulted him back,” the billionaire said in federal court in Los Angeles. “It was an unprovoked attack on what was a good-natured attempt to help the kids.”
Unsworth’s lawyers argue that Musk’s tweet overshadowed what should have been one of the diver’s proudest moments and left him no choice but to sue.
At the time, Musk said he didn’t know Unsworth had helped with the rescue. He said his tweet wasn’t asserted as a fact.
This is purely a case where Musk's ego and pride got in the way,
a stupid internet argument that if posted by a nobody would be
forgotten but that's not the case here, Musk was using his own
reputation to put down someone he really didn't know but worse,
someone speaking with authority regarding the impracticality of
Musk's suggested submarines for the rescue...
In the context of a cave rescue involving teen aged boys in Thailand,
Musk's tweet was deliberately cruel and intended to utterly defame
the guys character, this is not going away.

Perhaps Young Elonstein felt his masculinity and genius were being questioned by a common pond scum scuba rescue guy who did what he never could. Nyaaa nyaaa nyaa nyaaaa nyaaaa nyaaaaa you are stinky!!
Young Elonstein, please call Cher. She is waiting!
I was frankly angry with the verdict. What musk did is almost the textbook definition of liable/defamation and yet because once again the US justice system displays rich people are not equal to poor, he walks.
As I've said, defamation is notoriously difficult to prove in court. You have to prove you were actually defamed and damaged to be entitled to anything.
His legal team would (should) have advised him of any differences in values between UK and California - it beggars belief that calling him a "pedo guy" isn't the same as "accusing Mr Unsworth of being a pedophile” - just shows how corrupted the English language has become in America.
https://www.axios.com/elon-musk-win...uit-cb004094-c2b0-430c-8563-af4d3d03b948.html My, my, not guilty. No surprise really because people say all kinds of BS these days and it just blows over and after a short time is forgotten. We need to have really tough skins in today's world it seems because there is a lot of vulgarity, talking BS of people or things and bloviating. It's still wrong but the world is this way these days. Think our own "ignore" feature here on GMI.
It's a bit different when someone who is such an influencer labels you in front of everyone. He is not just a billionaire, he is a celebrity among other things.
This label will follow him forever. Incant say what a fair compensation is, but it's more than a apology.
No it wont...3 days from now if someone asks me who Vernin Unsworth is, my reply would be "who?" and not "oh...that pedo guy"....IMO to be truly defamed, youd have to be famed first.
