Automotive Supplier to Build $55 Million Assembly Plant in Detroit

    July 16, 2019

DETROIT—Automotive supplier Dakkota Integrated Systems plans to build a $55 million assembly plant here to produce parts for Fiat Chrysler Automobiles.

The 600,000-square-foot manufacturing plant will be located on a 32-acre site on the city’s east side and is expected to create 625 jobs.

“We’re excited to bring good manufacturing jobs to the east side of Detroit,” says Andra Rush, president and CEO of Dakkota.

Dakkota manufactures cockpit module assemblies, overhead systems, front and rear fascia, cooling modules, front and rear suspensions, and bumper and grill assemblies. The company already operates assembly plants in Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan, Ohio and Ontario.

And this folks, is why it matters were the cars are assembled!

    Kudo's to Chrysler!

625 direct jobs, plus all the outside work that is created by supporting the facility, and all the businesses that will get new customers and increased sales from the new workers of this plant.

(Exact opposite of what is going on in Lordstown, OH as we speak) - But hey, Mexico did OK!

Just like any good subsidy seeking business, Dakkota Integrated Systems wants local and state governments to give them mega breaks on real property, corporate income and utility user taxes for 10 years!

But hey, at least the company pledged to preserve the graffiti covered 'K' on the former Kettering High School site where they plan to build their new plant. While they're at it, they should also ensure that area gang members can continue running their open air drug markets and do drive by shootings on site.

So you think it's somehow a negative to build this plant???

The Duggan administration also will ask the Michigan Strategic Fund and City Council for a 10-year Detroit Next Michigan Development Corporation Renaissance Zone abatement on 100 percent of all real property tax, corporate income taxes and utility user taxes.

Detroit gave similar tax breaks to Urbana, Ill.-based auto supplier Flex-N-Gate to build its new $160 million plant in the I-94 Industrial Park, which supplies parts to Ford Motor Co.'s Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne.
10 years really goes fast and if FCA keeps investing in Detroit like they're planning on Detroit might actually see a little rebirth.

I think it is fantastic news. We can all debate if giving tax subsidies to get a bunch of jobs is a good thing................ but I think it is. Especially in Detroit that has been hit so hard with outsourcing.

I hope that's not the actual announcement ceremony. If it IS, why didn't anyone mow the parking lot and find some K-mart blue paint to overspray that modern, cutting-edge "artwork?"

Is that a mortar tube in the background?

And what, are they all praying "Oh dear Gawwwdddd-uhhhh, please please no drive-by bullet-spraying event right now!!"?

    Trash post....

Maybe....just maybe, they're leaving it there so that one day when the area is revitalized, they can look to that as a reminder of where the area came from.

Thanks, I consider that a compliment considering the source. It's unfortunate you don't understand the concept of routine maintenance.

Because it's not in Mexico or China?

Technically GM give 1/2 of every dollar, not just the tax dollars to our friends in China........... who thinks that doesn't cost a lot of $$$$$?

in Detroit's case there is NO TAX if these JOBS do not come so the TAX break is MORE money then if they were not offered and the plant opened up somewhere else

Might as well tear down a High school in a town where over half the population has moved out anyway. Entire neighborhoods can be bulldozed as they lay empty. I'll give it to FCA, at least they're investing in Detroit.
