Actually, she is delivering on that one! If there are no more cars at all, there will be no crappy ones.

Kind of like the Fuel Economy regs; "we decided to cook this stew, now eat it..."

There are still choices available, and people will make them - getting what they feel is best for them, not just what GM, or the EPA try to dictate. The only real way around the EPA is used cars, but it figures into this "overcapacity" issue, too.

Korea. That new VSS platform was also suppose to be a BEV platform An EV CUV would sell better then the Bolt. So with all of Mindless Mary's promise of EV, why aren't these "future" cars being built in the US?

As long as I've followed GM, for about 35 years, GM has always suffered from over capacity. The incredibly shrinking GM seems to know no lower limit.

That would be October 24th; ouch!....................

As hard is it is for the workers, they know, if they don't get a decent deal, they are going to be done anyway, so what's the upside to accept a bad deal?

GM is going to start losing real volume because of lack of inventory/choice, meanwhile Ford and FCA............ Losing market more and more market share every day..... drip-drip-drip.

Excellent point, closing plants is perpetual until there is none, then, finally no-more overcapacity!

Which is why I said this.................

A classic repeating of the line used by the young, inexperienced “digital” writers during the GM bankruptcy proceedings. Most didn’t have a clue.
    Reading comprehension, son.
I was obviously implying that GM has overcapacity because their vehicles and advertising are doing nothing to entice more buyers.

Why is it unsustainable. She is doing what the board and stock holders want, Profit. Profit over sales is a good thing. She and the board are looking at the future and making sure at a turn down in the market they can stay alive. Its completely different than the old GM. However the Union and it seems die hard GM people don't understand any of this. I like to see more exciting cars too but the market for those are no longer there except in expensive sports cars. The C8 Corvette is one that should be playing in that area and it appears it will be. Until people embrace cars again you aren't going to see exciting cars.

Got thinking about "Excess Production Capacity" a bit more, try this................

Sonic - Made in USA - CANCELLED
Cruze - Made in USA - CANCELLED
Volt - Made in USA - CANCELLED
    Trax - Made in S.Korea
Trailblazer - NEW Model; Made in S.Korea
Equinox - Made in Canada - Partial production moved to Mexico
Blazer - NEW Model; Made in Mexico
    Impala - Made in USA/Canada - CANCELLED

And we are surprised GM has excess capacity and needs to close MORE plants in the US?

Exactly my point as well, Ed! If you kill all the products, you have excess capacity. Somebody better put lead in Mary's golden parachute, or she's simply punting this down the road and shrinking GM.

RAM sales are now forecast to permanently exceed Silverado. Those trucks make money... Whither the CEO???

Not addressing the issues, and this is where I side with the UAW. Fix your s h i t, don't punt it down the road, and choose to not compete in so many still-viable segments. Mary needs to realize that GM still has a lot of sway, and use it. In the markets (retail and stock), with your workers, with your communities. It isn't dreaming big. You ARE big. Use that!

Maybe GM can bring back some production from overseas, there's no reason why the Envision can't be made in America. American companies can't continue shooting themselves in the foot.

Outsource production to China -> Chinese company makes copies -> American company acts surprised.

If you sent me the blueprints to make something for you because you are too cheap to pay your workers to build it, you bet I will make copies and undercut you. No honor among thieves, after all. You still from your workers, I steal from you.

The Envision shouldn't be made in the US because it sucks and it shouldn't be made anywhere. A proper 2 row CUV...a variant of the Blazer should be built in the US along with the Blazer.

Wait. I thought the Envision was nothing more than a glorified Equinox?

    LaCrosse cancelled, Made in USA
Cascada cancelled, made in europe (Poland I think)

    On the plus side:
XT4/XT6, recent models, Made in USA
CT4/CT5/new midengine Vette, Made in USA
Det/Ham factory saved, assume CT6/Impala production? I’m assuming Lacrosse is gone but maybe kill the Regal and keep the LaX?

It isn't...and an Equinox IMO wouldn't be much better. The Envision is a 100% Chinese market product shipped over to the US. I think it might be a reskinned/gussied up Opel Antara a.k.a Chevy Craptiva....I might be wrong on that part.

If this doesn’t make your blood boil. The tax payers bailed out GM in the hope of saving American manufacturing and American jobs

Can someone explain to me what kind of jobs will those laid off workers find? Are they going to pay anywhere as much? How are people supposed to provide for their families and keep the economy going when they are forced to take ****tier jobs? Who will be able to afford the junk the CEO-class is selling us when everyone is on government assistance?
