Re: What Forums Should Go, and Which Should Stay?

I know a forum that I am a moderator for just added a regional section, with a forum for each section of the US and Canada. I think we could get rid of the members garage forum toward the bottom of the forum index, hardly anyone goes there.

-Drop the Rumor Mill. Half the site is rumors, anyway.
    -Combine Recalls with Industry News
-Eliminate Reviews. Every time a car gets reviewed, you wind up with duplicates of the thread in Reviews, Car Discussion, and __(brand)__ News.
-Combine Holden News into GM Europe and Asia News. Call it GM Europe and Asia-Pacific. Maybe bundle Canada into this, too.
-Maybe delete Competition News, everything that's in there would be more appropriate in Chrysler/Ford/Asian Discussion.
-Combine Performance Tech with Tech Forum.
-Combine Cadillac/Buick with Saturn Discussion the way it is in the News section.
-Call the truck section in News the same thing as the truck section in Discussion.
-Remove DCX from the Chrysler Discussion section.

I second that. I think regional forums will be popular for a while and then die down and be a waste of space.

I agree. Everything that can be discussed in those, can be discussed in other forums.

Re: What Forums Should Go, and Which Should Stay?

I reordered some stuff and tweaked a few things to make it more ordered. But who knows... it's just an idea.... And switched up the Brand News section to be more in line with GM's corporate brand restructuring...

I think it should look like this:

Re: What Forums Should Go, and Which Should Stay?

mgescuro, fewer forums is better. This site has way too many forums that serve the same purpose (Recalls aren't Industry News?) Any forum with less than 300 topics should be bundled together with something else. They waste space, make the site hard to navigate, look ugly, and put people off who haven't been here before. It's a mess.

I like how you united all of the GMI forums, but the rest is long and some forums could be merged.

Actually, I don't see why "Recalls" would be "industry news."
The way I read it... a recall is company specific. If Nissan announces a recall, it's not really affecting the industry.
But a UAW strike against Ford and GM... or a rubber shortage affecting tire supplies would be "Industry."

    I don't believe that's semantics.

Re: What Forums Should Go, and Which Should Stay?

In that case, GM's job cuts aren't "industry news." It only affects GM.

The forums need to be condensed. I don't know why you're seperating Cadillac and Buick into seperate forums, when they barely have any posts while combined. Streamline the site.

OK... let's change it up a bit... Remove Recalls and Reviews... as those could go into each brand's "News" section. Mods can just preface each title with "RECALL" and "REVIEW"
We can also more Motorsports to each Brand section and preface that with "MOTORSPORT" or something.....

Re: What Forums Should Go, and Which Should Stay?

I think Buick, Cadillac and Saturn should be separated into their own forums like the other brands.

In the discussion area, Caddy and Buick should be separated. Saturn has its own section. Why not Caddy and Buick, too?

That's why I have a "GM Corporate" section for all that UAW, GMAC, nonsense. Believe it or not, there's a lot of Non-car related news that related to GM... and should be seen by GM fans, etc.

And as far as separting Buick and Cadillac.... I think it makes sense, because I lump Buick and Pontiac and GMC. as they are one entity now.
