I've had to delete some pretty nauseating posts lately.
This is not about who started what, or any placement of blame, it's a reminder that you all are posting in a community that demands common decency from its posting members.
When you escalate a heated situation, and personal background is part of the issue, you're attacking everyone else with that background.
I don't care who started what, anyone who contributes to a racially charged situation with more racially charged material can stand to lose their posting priviledges immediately, and permanently. Our volunteer moderators work hard to keep things as fair and fun as possible, but we don't always see everything that goes on. If you see problematic posts and posters, report them to us. If you decide to take it upon yourself to make a bad situation worse, you're not going to remain welcome to post on GMI.
We have members from every walk of life, every lifestyle, every continent except Antarctica, and more different backgrounds than I could possibly name. We've got a great community dynamic despite our other differences, and we've got a pretty good collective sense of humor, when it comes to ourselves, that keeps us from getting overly petty.
We also see people join and act as disruptive forces. I've been proud of the members who respond passionately, and with integrity. I'm proud of the members who have bitten their tongues instead of escalating. I'm not worried about that. Jerks is jerks. Just don't be one, and for goodness sake don't be a bigger one.
The Special Olympics is not a subject for humor on GMI.
Not only is it covered under the posting rules regarding questionable content, it is given as the definitive example. Posting jokes about the Special Olympics, and encouraging those who post such dreck, is inexcusable, and requires no explanation for banning.
Report the rotten apples. Don't let them spoil you.
