Official GMI Gran Turismo 4 Thread!

Just got the game tonight. I sat out GT3 as I had had an xBox up until last month. I bought a PS2 specifically for this game, so I had high expectations.

So far here are my opinions-

    Pluses-
    • Tons of cars, and what appears to be endless hours of game play.
    • Driving seems a little bit more difficult which is an upgrade over the older "drive fast as you can at a wall and bounce off it" driving style.
    • RWD Cars are actually drivable. I remember endless nights being pissed at older GT games because the Viper did dough nuts on every turn.
    • Tons of great tracks! Nuremberg (SP?)...need I say more?
    Negatives-
    • Was I correct in seeing some car from the 1800's and Jay Leno's Tank Rod? These cars are here, but there is no Trans Am?
    • American Car Makers are still under represented. Why is the Sunfire there? I see there still are about 18 different versions of each import car.
    • I have a 52" HD Big Screen and the game had so many jagglies it made my head hurt. Granted, it is not on an HD hookup because my Cable Box, XBox, and DVD Player have those all occupied
    • The cars all sound like crap still. The GTO sounds horrid.
Thats all I can think of for now. I think my opinions will obviously change as I get deeper into the game. Seems like there is still a lot more to see.

Are there any HSV cars in the game? I heard there was only a Monaro & a SS from Holden, but I read elsewhere that there are more Holden/HSV cars in the game then first reported.

GT4 gets released here in mid-March.

You definitely get your money's worth out of this game. At least 150 hours to complete the game, and that's if you're good.

I'll wait a couple months for the price to drop. Halo 2 & PGR2 are keeping me occupied on Xbox Live at the moment.

Did you mean Nurburgring? My favorite track from GT3 is Laguna Seca, it's a Mazda raceway.

I think what you were trying to say was Nurburgring?

I agree there are a large # of cars but what about the lack of US cars?

I was dissapointed by the lack of the US cars but I do love the tracks.

What has to be done is start spamming Sony email's of any kind with demand for more American cars.

I love the game, much better the GT3, the M3 is great, having 20 skylines sucks. The graphics are crystal clear for me.

So which cars would you want for GT5.

    Firebird
    Mustang Cobra
    Charger
    Firepower
    Sky

Branden, try to get a hold of a set of component cables for the PS2. GT4 is the first game to run in 1080i for PS2, but you can only get that with a progressive scan HDTV and the component hookups. All the jaggies will be gone then.

To everyone else - remember, Polyphony digital is a japanese development group in Japan. All GT development is handled exclusively by them - so I doubt we'll ever see a good representation of American or European cars in GT.

I wont get this simply because it glorifies rice rockets.

This is what I've seen elsewhere:

Holden Commodore V8 Supercar Race Car
    Holden HSV HRT 27
    Holden Monaro CV8
    HSV Commodore
    HSV GTS GEN3
    HSV Monaro GTS

But keep in mind that some of these cars probably have to be "won" in some obscure contest that forces you to drive a Honda or Nissan for 3 hours straight. Kidding...but not far from the truth.

I wish most of the "regular" cars were available from the dealership, but that's not what I'm seeing in the game. At least you can access many of them in the Arcade mode, though.

Branden, you ask "Why is the Sunfire in the game?" - well, I don't mind it being there - but yeah, why have a Sunfire CONCEPT that never made it to production, and yet dis the Firebird? You'd think with the 50 versions of Skylines they could have made room for the modern-day Firebird, since they probably could have used some of the modeling and physics from the Camaro.

Also, note that the Pontiac brand itself is dissed in the game, with mention of it being "lackluster" for some 30 years or so, until the GTO and Solstice. It's like the Turbo Trans Am, Firehawks, and other T/A's never existed, not to mention the Turbo Grand Prix and others.

Re: Official GMI Gran Turismo 4 Thread!

It actually mentions the word "lackluster" in the game??

    That's bushleague.... plain and simple.

So, what did they say about Mitsubishi?? Let me guess, standard of the world?

I'm going to buy this game because it has Pontiacs in it, but they just officially made me hate Japanese cars even more. I'm going to go take my 345 horsepower twin-turbo PONTIAC FIERO and find me a couple of ricers to smoke.

Thumbs down Re: Official GMI Gran Turismo 4 Thread!

    I'm severely dissapointed too...
I don't understand why all the delays occurred, I don't see ANYTHING new or great, just a bunch of little things, I would call this GT3 expansion pack (more crappy jpn cars, and more tracks).

    Pros:
    ++++
    +The Licence trials are easier
+The physics seem better (but Enthusia will be even better!)
    +MORE tracks!
    +The courses look cleaner/nicer
    +MORE cars

    Cons:
    -------
-SOOO many stupid cars I don't care about, yet NO production Cadillacs, no C6, sooo many Great American cars are missing!
-No damage still kills this game as being the "real racing sim"
-It's got the same STUPID AI drivers,
-Just like GT3 I STILL don't get a good sense of speed out there!
-The music sucks (Who here DIDN't turn it off right away!!!)
-Autosaves was a stupid feature, I turned that off right away.
-I haven't played with the photo mode and don't expect I will.

I've only purchased three cars so far, the Vibe for FF, the Opel Speedster and the GTO for FR and pro races. My next vehicle will be a WRX for 4WD and dirt. <-- you see a patter there?!

GT3 --> GT4 is the epitome of style over substance...
FIX the **************** AI and include damage or quit calling this "the real driving sim"
