    MING has been Autoblogged

Mings' article "Should a Truly Global GM Replace North American GM Brand Cars?" was quoted in the Autoblog and used to start a discussion about the convenience of bringing GM global cars to the US. Congratulations Ming!!

Show of hands – should GM integrate its global assets?

A member of the GM Inside News forum that goes by the tag Ming recently posted a treatise on GM’s struggle to stave off a continual decline in market share and perhaps even bankruptcy. Ming bluntly says what many people have been thinking – stop insulating the U.S. market and import great products from your global brands. He calls for Pontiac-badged Holdens, Chevy-badged Daewoos and Buick-badged Opels to be sold in the U.S. market and the export of GM’s better U.S.-only models to foreign markets. He cedes that the UAW won’t go for it, although proposes that the loss of manufacturing due to the import of many models could be offset by the increased production of models earmarked for export. Would integrating its global assets be GM’s Hail Mary pass that gets caught in the endzone? Read Ming’s report and get back to us.

    Thank you, thank you.

I hope GM at least considers the idea as a "hail Mary pass".

I personally agree. It is proablly what GM needs to save itself. Its just too bad that none of the cars are really "American Made".

    Congrats Ming!

I agree with your article. It will cause GM some growing pains in the short term, especially with the unions, but I think GM as a whole would benefit with a globalization of it's product line. Plus a leaner and meaner assembly line here in the States that only made the best selling US autos would ensure jobs for the UAW and would keep the US made autos competitive with car sales globally.

    Congrats from me also.

I'm not holing my breath for Opel to come here though. I'll be happy if they just rebadge them with Saturn swooshes.

    Re: MING has been Autoblogged

Good job...I totally agree that they need to stop isolating the US market like they have been for so many years. maybe not as the brands the article suggests, Opels may fit Saturn better, though Holdens as Pontiacs works for some models, some would fit better as Chevys. Regardless, the point of the whole article makes sense.

So lets see. Toyota lied about recalls. Lied about their HP ratings... I wonder how much truth is in their milage ratings..

Wow, Ming, your ears must be burning.

"Autoblog" has 11 comments at last view as well.

Should be interesting if your original article creates any real action in GM's corporate offices.

Great job Ming, this is exciting. Now someday GM would be like, why didn't we do that one idea that Ming person thought of? And they could probably save GM if they took your idea.
