Watch: Corvette ZR1 Makes 670 HP on the Dyno

For the first time (probably) a Corvette ZR1 has been put on an independent dynomometer and had its power tested at the wheels.

Rated for 750 hp at the crank, this manual Corvette makes 670 hp at the wheels, which actually isn’t bad. Drivetrain loss is a tricky thing to calculate because of just how many variables there are, but the rule of thumb is that the average car loses about 15% of its power between the crank and the wheels.

For a ZR1, that would be about 112 hp, meaning that it should be making close to 640 hp. At 670, though, it’s losing more like 10.5%. So good job, Chevy, I guess.
