Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 Will Show Up in 2017– CARB Documents Show

Publication of  the 2017 Chevrolet Colorado’s CARB emission certificates indicate GM’s midsize truck will gain the heavyweight ZR2 trim during the 2017 model year.

Anticipated to make its debut at the upcoming 2016 LA Auto Show this November, it was unclear if the Colorado ZR2 would actually make its market debut during the 2017 model year, or if buyers would have to soldier through the summer waiting for 2018 trucks. The ZR2 is listed as both an LDT2 and LDT3 Class vehicle,

Surprisingly, the two documents don’t include the much loved 2.8L Duramax diesel, CARB certifications only last one year. The Duramax is currently listed in 2017 order guides and press releases, it’s possible the diesel’s certification is moving slower through the regulatory process which has recently become much harsher towards the technology.

Besides it’s unlikely buyers would be left only with the new 3.6L V6 after the popularity the diesel has shown with shoppers. If anything, this certainly casts doubt on the Duramax Colorado ZR2 dream.

Stay tuned for more from the 2016 LA Autoshow next month.
