Report: Blackwing V8 Headed to More CT6 Models with Slightly Less Flap

It doesn’t make sense for Cadillac, or General Motors, to develop an all-new twin-turbo V8 and then only put it into 275 cars you ask? Well, you’re probably right. It looks like we might see some more Blackwing spreading its, um, wings into more models.

The 550 hp CT6-V sold out in less than a day. But the engine looks to be ready for more appearances, according to Cars Direct.

They’re reporting that order guides for the “regular” non-V CT6 will get a detuned version of the engine. They say that the 4.2L twin-turbo V8 will get a bit of a de-rate, to “just” 500 hp and 553 lb-ft of torque. Then it will get put in the CT6 Platinum, along with a 10-speed auto and all-wheel drive.

So how many CT6 Platinum trim cars is Cadillac planning? We’re not sure. But the report says that the ones that get built will likely sticker for just a hair under $100k. That’s $8,000 more than a V and $9,000 more than the 3.0L twin-turbo V6 Platinum.

If you’re looking for a 750iL or Audi A8 substitute, then this might be just that. For similar money but with far more power.
