New NASCAR Camaro Turns First Laps

Chase Elliot became the first driver to test the new Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 NASCAR on track.

During Tuesday’s Goodyear tire test at Texas Motor Speedway, Elliot became the first Chevrolet backed driver to shake down the Camaro as it steps in to replace the discontinued Chevrolet SS. The ZL1 will have some big shoes to fill, since 2013 the SS has won 70 races and taken three series championships.

“As far as the feel goes, it’s so hard to tell. I have a hard time feeling much of anything, I’m going so fast,” Elliott was quoted as saying by Racer.

“I think until we get into situations where we are racing and we get some more general analysis of hey, the Chevrolet’s are better or the Chevy’s are qualifying better or the Chevy’s are racing better – I think until we get of those generalizations of exactly how we stack up, it’s going to be hard to just make a ‘guesstimation’ of how the thing drives and say it’s better or worse. It’s hard for me to tell out there by myself.”

The Camaro will make its official racing debut in the at the Daytona 500 in February.
