Johnny O’Connell is Back at Le Mans! by Michael Accardi June 7, 2016June 7, 2016 Share Comments Thread The four-time class winner is back at Le Mans– and in a Corvette again. With O’Connell shoring up the Team AAI/ProSpeed Competition Corvette driver lineup–alongside Oliver Bryant and Mark Patterson– ahead of the French endurance classic, Corvette Racing is hoping to see a C7.R take class honors in both GTE Am and GTE Pro. O’Connell arrived in France last Friday and hopped straight into the ACO simulator as part of mandatory requirements for drivers absent from La Sarthe for at least five years. Sunday’s test day served as a shakedown for the team, they only just received their C7.R from Pratt & Miller last week– Team AAI will actually be running last years GTE Pro-winning C7.R, formerly of Oliver Gavin, Tommy Milner and Jordan Taylor. The team is now frantically working to find a balance for the car, the #57 C7.R was suffering from excessive oversteer on Sunday. Not much time was dedicated to setup on the test day, as all three drivers needed to complete their mandatory laps in order to be eligible for the race; but according to O’Connell they’re not far from finding the sweet spot between fast and comfortable to drive. Scrutineering happens on Monday June 13, ahead of the big day on June 18.
