GM Recalling 5,000 2016/2017 Full-Size Pickups and SUVs

General Motors will be recalling 5,000 new full-size pickups and SUVs to address faulty control arms.

Included in the campaign are the 2016-2017 Chevrolet Silverado, joined by the 2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV; Chevrolet Tahoe; and GMC Sierra, Yukon and Yukon XL.

The issue stems from front upper control arms which may have botched welds near the bushing, which could lead to failure.

According to the NHTSA documents, “Inadequate welds may allow the control arm to separate from the bushing, compromising steering and increasing the risk of a crash.”

The test also confirmed that the poor quality weld can fail at low or high speeds during steering or braking maneuvers, or with jarring road inputs such as potholes.”

Dealers will replace both left and right front upper control arms including realignment. GM has begun notifying owners, however parts are not currently available, a second notification will be sent out when necessary components become available.

GM’s number for this recall is 42190.
