General Motors Patents Envista Name, Possibly for New Buick by Evan Williams March 26, 2019March 26, 2019 Share Comments GM’s latest trademark is for the name Envista. Which suggests that there might be a new Buick model on the way. The listing is on the USPTO website and was uncovered by GM Authority. General Motors filed the patent for the name on March 19th. The filing says they are intending to use the Envista name for, and this won’t come as a surprise to anyone, “motor land vehicles, namely, automobiles.” So what could the name be for? It certainly sounds close to the Avista branding that the company put on the stunning 2+2 concept car that it unveiled at the 2016 New York auto show. Though Buick had said fairly clearly the car would not be coming to production. Well, they eventually did, after letting us wonder for a while. But the En name does fit perfectly in the world of the Buick crossover. With the Encore, Envision, and Enclave. Now that the crossover market is exploding into every single possible segment, there’s likely more holes for Buick to fill, each one needing a new name. We already know they’ve trademarked Enspire, which was used on a concept crossover revealed in China last year. There are also rumors of Buick using Envoy, since GM filed for that one last year too. Except switching brands with a name doesn’t make much sense. Maybe GM reached that same conclusion which is why they’ve grabbed Envista. Like all of these spy stories, we’ll wait and see and update you as soon as we hear.
