Gallery: Corvette History and More at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance

There’s too much to see at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance. That’s not a complaint, it’s just a fact. As someone who grew up in what now appears to have been a backwater, I found myself asking if the cars I was seeing were real.

“Is that real?” I asked myself over and over again. It inevitably was.

The Amelia Island Concours is a show “the”s. That is THE two rotor mid-engine Corvette. That’s THE Porsche 356 that Janis Joplin owned. That’s THE Stingray concept that would eventually become the C2 Corvette.

You could get whiplash from all of the neck-craning cars that are just parked hither and yon, driving around like they aren’t pant-wettingly pretty and nation-GDP-rivalingly expensive.
