Do You Care About the Indy 500?

It’s probably some kind of sacrilege for asking…

The 100th running of the Indy 500 takes place this weekend. The Brickyard is going to be packed, with IMS announcing they’ve totally sold out this years event. They even went so far as to scrap the annual TV blackout.

Good, great, wonderful.

But I can’t shake this feeling that the 100th Indianapolis 500 is only popular because it’s the 100th Indianapolis 500, a once-in-a-lifetime chance to participate in one of the most iconic motor races in the world.

But do you care? I kinda don’t.

By the time race day rolls around the Indy 500 will have been in the news for the better part of a month. From testing, to qualifying, to pace car announcements and event schedules, the thing almost suffers from over exposure.

Yea, yea, yea tradition is tradition, but at this point it’s feeling kinda tepid…
