Has The Time Come For GM to Offer a Sporty Car Below The Camaro?

Sep 01, 2015 - 1:51 PM - by Z284ever

With the release of Camaro's pricing info, some folks are already suffering sticker shock. A base 4 cylinder turbo 1LT will cost you almost $27K before taxes and fees. Add $1500 if you want a V6. Add another $10K for the base 1SS. A loaded 2SS will go deep into the $40Ks. And these are the base cars! GM has two performance versions of the Camaro in the works. The MSRPs on those should be fairly sobering.

It seems to me, that a lot of open space lies below the Camaro for bucks down enthusiasts at the moment.

Is it time for GM to release something sporty which could live in that segment?

Now mind you, I'm not even arguing whether it should be RWD or FWD, engine configuration, etc., merely something sporty,... [Read More]

GMI Op-Ed: GM's Opportunities Continue Despite China's Black Monday

On August 11, 2015, Cadillac honcho Johan de Nysschen predicted that the marque’s worldwide sales would hit 500,000 by the end of the decade. On the same day, the Chinese government devalued the Yuan. Not until 13 days later did the Chinese stock market react, leading to an implosion with ripples felt throughout the world’s markets . . . and the headquarters of global automotive manufacturers.

General Motors currently has close to 15 percent of market share in The Red Dragon, but really even the smallest global manufacturer worth its salt would be remiss in ignoring the... [Read More]

Chevrolet SS/Holden Swan Song a Hellcat-Fighter?

Aug 25, 2015 - 9:42 PM - by Diego

Is GM Readying its Own Hellcat Fighter?
GM could be bidding farewell to the Holden Commodore in style with a Hellcat fighter.
Jason Siu/AutoGuide

Rumor has it that Holden wants to go out with a bang, creating the most powerful muscle car ever in Australian history by fitting the 6.2-liter supercharged V8 from the discontinued Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 under the hood of its Commodore sedan.

Chevrolet finds cause and solution for Corvette Z06 engine problem

Chevrolet finds cause and solution for Corvette Z06 engine problem
By Gary Gastelu/Fox News
August 21, 2015

If you read my recent review of the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06, you know it didn’t end well.

Oh, the car was a thrill. With 650 horsepower worth of stomach-churning acceleration, a top speed of over 200 mph and more lateral grip than a wall could provide, it was world class in all respects. Unfortunately, its monstrous, supercharged 6.2-liter V8 performed a dramatic act of self-immolation during

GMI Op-Ed: Is the Chevy Impala Next to be Discontinued?

Aug 21, 2015 - 2:12 PM - by Diego

Is the Chevy Impala Next to be Discontinued?
There was a time when the Chevrolet Impala was the most popular car in the U.S. In 1964, almost 900,000 Impalas were built (which still didn’t include the lower-line Bel Air and Biscayne full-size models, which pushed production to well over 1.5 million Bow Ties). Simply put, the Impala was America’s favorite appliance and, until the advent of the Pontiac GTO, it was also America’s favorite performance car when equipped with the 409.

The Impala eventually disappeared from Chevrolet’s roster not too long ago, but then returned as a modern FWD iteration of Chevrolet’s family sedan. Styling was courtesy of some General Motors committee, but the Impala was a decent performer that had good reliability and bulletproof mechanicals. It may have developed a rental-car reputation, but ask any... [Read More]

2017 Buick Regal Spied

Aug 21, 2015 - 7:55 AM - by

The next Opel Insignia, sold as the Buick Regal in the U.S., has been caught testing in new spy photos.

As we can see from the body lines, the Regal is moving to a hatchback five-door body style with the current four-door sedan version likely to be cancelled. A station wagon variant is expected to join the lineup about six months after the car launches, but U.S. availability is unknown at this point.

Overall the wheelbase in expected to be stretched by about 10 cm, though the car should be about 440 lbs lighter than the current model.

A 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine will likely be the 2017 Buick Regal’s base engine, while a more powerful
