GMI Review: 2015 GMC Canyon All Terrain

Functional fun in a more frugal package

Even with all the hoopla over Cadillac’s newest toys, this is by far my most anticipated press vehicle of the year: the 2015 GMC Canyon. Not because it’s over-the-moon impressive or blows the old Canyon and its competitors out of the water. No. It’s that GM bothered to build it at all.

Manufactured for the eight years spanning 2004 to 2012 in Shreveport, Louisiana (Go Knockers!), the Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon were never particularly brilliant trucks. If you wanted a pickup and couldn’t afford a Silverado/Sierra or didn’t have room to park it, the Colorado and Canyon were your penalty box twins —... [Read More]

2017 Malibu Americana
2016 Malibu's tough brother

In some markets Honda once offered two Accords, the regular Accord and the European Accord. That is what I thought about while reading how GM got the weight out of Malibu. Basically they made it lighter by never considering a V6 or AWD, even though it's competitors offer such options.

I thought, great,... [Read More]

2016 Chevy Camaro is 28 Percent Stiffer

Apr 09, 2015 - 9:28 AM - by AutoGuide.com

The slow drip of information on the 2016 Chevy Camaro continues.

GM says that the new Camaro is 28 percent stiffer than the current car and we already know that it will be about 200 lbs lighter than its predecessor. Chevy says that the more rigid body along with the weight loss has allowed them to better tune the car’s steering and has allowed them to reduce unsprung weight.

Along with this info, Chevrolet has released two new photos of the car, revealing both the wheels and brakes. “The modeling abilities of computer aided engineering are advancing at incredible rates,” said Jim Karlavage, Camaro program engineering manager. “Today, we can accurately

Have you ever wondered how much it was worth to achieve better fuel economy? Does the advantage of diesel fuel economy get lost in the cost of maintenance?

Holden have given us a few vehicles to have a closer look. In this episode, I take the 2014 Holden Barina RS on my daily commute.

In this episode we look at the Barina RS. Future episodes will close out the comparison between the Malibu CDX Diesel, Barina RS and Cruze Sportwagon.

Now we have added a few more vehicles into the mix including the Camry Hybrid.

GMI Interview: Johan de Nysschen, President, Cadillac and GM Executive VP

As is normal with interviews, we tend to pick out the interesting bits and provide them to you -- the reader -- without all the unnecessary bits in the middle. However, with other automotive journalists jumping on the bandwagon to refute claims made by Cadillac president, Johan de Nysschen, we thought it pertinent to post the entire interview without cutting out the in-between parts.

Shortly after the private reveal of the 2016 Cadillac CT6, I was able to catch up with de Nysschen and ask him some questions about Cadillac's newest model, the new naming scheme, and the future of the XTS.

Mark Stevenson: What’s difference between CT6 and CTS other than... [Read More]

Cadillac ELR to be Axed

Apr 06, 2015 - 8:25 PM - by AutoGuide.com

http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...o-be-axed.html

Cadillac’s slow-selling plug-in hybrid coupe won’t be a part of the brand’s future.

Speaking to AutoGuide.com at the New York International Auto Show, brand president Johan de Nysschen confirmed that the ELR will stick around in the short term, but not beyond.

“The ELR will continue through its lifecycle,” he said, however, “I don’t’ think we will create a next-generation, compact, two-door, gorgeously styled alternative powertrain successor to ELR.”

That doesn’t mean the end of green cars for Cadillac, which, says de Nysschen, “will continue to offer alternative powertrain... [Read More]

GMI Exclusive: XTS will not be replaced at end of lifecycle

No direct successor to ATS, CTS when those models are renamed

Cadillac will not replace the XTS when it reaches the end of its lifecycle in 2019 signalling the end of the funeral and stretch limousine business for GM's luxury brand, GMInsideNews can report.

With the introduction of the new range-topping -- for now -- CT6 revealed last night, Cadillac will realign their products to better take on its German competition.

"As we move into the future refining our sedan portfolio, there will be no direct successor to the CTS. There will be no direct successor to the ATS. There is no point to renaming those cars because in the future those cars will disappear," said Johan de Nysschen... [Read More]

This year will mark many firsts for Cadillac as it looks to extend its reach beyond North American luxury. It will be the first year they call New York their “home” auto show…or any auto show outside of Detroit, for that matter. It will also be the first time Cadillac has introduced a new nameplate since January 2012 when it debuted the then-new ATS.

It isn’t just Cadillac showing off new wares in the Big Apple. Chevrolet has confirmed at least two models for the show while Buick could be set to reveal something as well.

GMInsideNews will be covering the Cadillac CT6 launch event and the... [Read More]

Post Current Art & Science Cadillac Styling?

In the year 2025,
if Cadillac is still alive.

It's a simple proposition really. Where to after the current Cadillac styling theme has run it's course?

I have chosen inspiration from 1965-1975 Cadillac styling. I then took that slab-sided angular rectangular look and went modern minimalist with it. I hope by 2025 some the German over-wrought styling has calmed back down to a stately elegance again as well.

So, no door handles,... [Read More]

During almost the entirety of the fifth generation Camaro, it topped the sales charts in comparison to Mustang and Challenger. GM plans to keep that crown with an all-new platform for the model, signaling the biggest change since its reintroduction on the Zeta platform.

OpEd Buick Avenir CUV a better bet?

Mar 17, 2015 - 8:43 AM - by MonaroSS
Luxury CUV would be a more profitable Buick
March 18th, 2015
by MonaroSS

We love the Buick Avenir
Would we love it as a CUV?

It's a simple proposition really. Would the Avenir do better as a luxury CUV rather than a Luxury sedan?

We know the market in large sedans has been falling for a long time, while CUV crossover type vehicles are the big growth market. So while we love the Australian Holden Designed Avenir as a gorgeous looking large sedan, we should ask - is there a profitable market for such a car?

With the German luxury... [Read More]

What Will Six Do? That's what GM asks us at the end of their latest teaser, as it celebrates its 500,000th 5th generation Camaro sale in the US, and also shows us a glimpse of the 6th generation Camaro, albeit in camo.

It's safe to call the 5th gen a sales success. The pencil pushers at GM are very pleased. It's great when internal politics don't have your car marked for death and you can just seamlessly go on to the next generation. Those half million 5th generation units secured that right for the upcoming 6th generation car.

So, what will "Six" do? The 6th generation Camaro has the potential to reach new segments and buyers who might never had... [Read More]

Why Buick is becoming the Cadillac of GM – not Cadillac

Mar 12, 2015 - 9:11 AM - by Tone

Jeremy Cato | Globe and Mail | March 11, 2015

Somewhere in this universe or beyond, the Scottish inventor of the pushrod engine and founder of Buick Motor Co., David Dunbar Buick, is having the last laugh at the expense of the remnants of the old Henry Ford company, which eventually became General Motor’s Cadillac brand.

Buick is becoming the premium brand GM has dreamed of for Cadillac since … forever. Buick has done this quietly, without hype or empty promises. Last year, Buick delivered nearly 1.2 million vehicles in China, the United States, Canada and Mexico, a second straight sales record. Buick’s luscious Avenir... [Read More]

Full-size tri-shield sedan is traditional Buick to and for the core
www.GMInsideNews.com
March 11, 2015
By: Mark Stevenson

With General Motors pushing the Buick brand in a more youthful direction, the LaCrosse goes against the modern grain. Models like the Regal, Verano, and Encore are enticing younger and younger buyers to the Buick brand, which is absolutely necessary, but it’s important not to forget core customers in the process. That’s where the LaCrosse comes in.

Solidly at the latter half of its second generation, post-refresh, the current LaCrosse is getting to the end of its life and will be due for a complete redesign in the near future. Riding atop the same Epsilon II platform as the... [Read More]
