The CTS can't shoulder all of Caddy's sales and goodwill alone. The future STS or DTS or Whatever the name will be should be a true Flagship with no shortcuts.
Ya, I voted for the STS... Chevy has a few cars and trucks that sell well and with the Volt and Camaro days away, they are in good shape... On the other hand Cadillac has ONE nice car... How did our upscale brand get to a point where they only have ONE competitive car that sells well...

The Cadillac division without a world class full size car would be like if GMC stopped selling trucks and bet the farm on a minivan...

I voted other, for the Buick Lucerne.

I think the car is hopeless.

The Colorado is a pile. They should have never quit building the S-10 people liked those better...

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

Its rather obvious isn't it? Its the colorado/canyon! If we're just picking one and not rambling off all the cars that GM makes we have a problem with, these trucks rank numero uno.

If Americans are fed up with high gas prices, but still want and need the utility of a truck/suv why wouldn't GM put this tops on its list? Small trucks have always been superior to full size ones. More fun to drive, better mpg, and incredibly useful. A small pick up when done right fits like a glove. Its needs to be bulletproof, simple, efficient, and mean offroad. Like a good dual sport bike like the honda CRF230L or the yamaha TW200. (I realize not all of you know what either of those are) Sure there are bigger bikes out there, but few offer the fun and value for your dollar as those. The same thing needs to happen with GM's little trucks.

Up your game GM. Stop pitching us bloated, overpriced fullsized trucks! And give us our manual and diesel options or watch the new ones rot on the sales lot like your GMT900s!

No truer words have ever been spoken! I had such high hopes for these, who would have thought they could have missed the mark so bad. I don't even think they were looking at the target! Interestingly if you look at customer satisfaction/reviews online everyone raves about the canyon and hates the colorado by comparision. Uh, they look the same too me folks.

The Chevy Cobalt is by far the worst shape of them all.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

As they say:
"it's all about the gas stupid"
Colorado/Canyon - first
Cobalt - second
Launching cool, new approaches to these would do wonders in more ways than can be counted.
And speaking of being counted - sales stats would look great.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

I think the two that need replacing most are the Cobalt and the STS. They aren't bad cars it's just that they're not keeping up like they should. I selected the Cobalt because of it's importance to GM. I applaud the decision to move up the next generation's release; very very smart. I think if GM markets it well and it gets good fuel economy numbers (hopefully spectacular) then it's going to be a huge hit.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

I voted for the Cobalt simply because that segment is becoming more popular and competitive everyday and the public would really respond to a world-class Cobalt. The current one isn't bad, sure, but against the Lancer, Mazda3 and Civic it doesn't look quite so good.

The STS is an alright car but next to the world-class CTS, it looks very old-hat.

The Impala and G6 aren't class-leaders but they seem to be holding up pretty well.

Overall, when these are the "most desperate" GM products, you can tell GM is in pretty decent shape. Compare that to Chrysler Corp.'s Sebring, Avenger and PT Cruiser and Ford's Crown Victoria, Ranger, Town Car and Grand Marquis.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

you will probably hate me for this but i would change many models!!

The entire Buick palette - only keeping the Enclave

From Caddy i would keep the CTS and Escalade (and would do something about the rest asap

Chevy...well keep the Vette, the 'maro, 'bu, and would start workin on the rest

Pontiac...would keep the Solstice and the G8 (if) but the brand has serious identity issues.

Saturn...it will be good, as long as it keeps the Opel stuff and the Sky, it will be fine

Saab... well ... change everything...yesterday was already too late

I didnt say what would i do to which, cuz that would be another story
About the trucks... im not a truck guy, but i like them

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

Out of the list given us......it'd have to be the G6 IMO. The Impala is still selling fairly strong (Univ. of NE-Lincoln PD uses primarily Impalas now!).....the Colorado we haven't heard much about (same as with most Saturn models ) and in my neck of the woods, the Cobalt seems primed to become heir apparent to the Cavalier......give it another year or two and you'll see just as many on these roads.

As for the STS?? Same as with the Colorado....in my market/neck of the woods....advertising for that beast is practically non existent......

To me, desperate means taking a slow/poor selling model (that you actually bother to advertise once in a while) and piling on the incentives slightly more often than other models....

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

TrailBlazder and Envoy - Update or drop
Uplander - same

Impala and LaCrosse - They don't look too bad from the outside but when you drive them you can tell they are on old platforms.

I'm surprised the Cobalt is being picked on here. Remember how long they ran the Cavalier? A refresh to the front and updated interior would go a long way.

The Equinox and Torrent need at the minimum new interiors. When I drove them I thought the dash was incredibly low and door panels flat and cheap looking.

All products seriously need to reconsider the rough, cheap fabric they are using accross the board. I think they are fine for base models, then upgraded soft cloth, then leather. The rough dull grey fabric in the Aura I tested looked and felt terrible.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

I chose the Impala for 3 reasons.
1. Because when gas prices start to kick people square in the wallet, people who have SUVs for no reason other than because their neighbour has one, will be hesitant of stepping all the way down to the Cobalt.
2. A Hybrid Impala has plenty of realestate to hide the hardware.
2. Because the badge deserves some respect.

I feel the same way. The CTS easily out-classes it, however. The joke in the Caddy lineup is the DTS, to me.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product

I have to go with Colorado/Canyon with Cobalt/G5 a close second. With so many people refusing to give up pickups, GM & Ford would be wise to update their offerings. Ford probably could reap a small fortune by updating the Ranger with new front/rear ends & a nice interior. Chevy could do just as well by giving the Colorado a similar treatment. I would love a new Colorado with mini-Silverado styling and that new small diesel V8.
