Re: Most Desperate GM Product
I, for one, actually like the STS. A parent at my school drives one and it's really really nice.
I'd buy one...if I could afford it. =(

Re: Most Desperate GM Product
They all need updated, but the Cobalt needs it the most. Especially since people are moving into smaller, more fuel efficient cars.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product
From a form perspective, yes, Cobalt. But the basic concept of the Cobalt fits the times. A facelift wouldn't hurt. But the Colorado/Canyon platform is also pretty dusty, with a real functional issue. A mid size truck with poor fuel mileage is just not fitting for these times. You can buy a full size Silverado with AFM and basically receive the same fuel economy.
No truck today is really fitting for these times. In the '70's and '80's we had little *** trucks that people made fun of. I had 2 of them. 4 cylinders, sheet metal thin as a Bud can, but these things got great mileage, were fun to drive and light & nimble as a kitten. Now that the Asian mfgs had to copy the domestics, we have no place to turn for a micro truck like this. Imagine how many would stand in line today for a "new" micro pickup like the Toyota Hilux. Instead of a V8 that was proposed for the Colorado, how about a downsized unit with a turbo 4, like the 260HP unit in the HHR? A little Colorado. That's what these times need. |

The G5. Its just so wrong on so many levels. I would say the Lucerne would be next followed in a dead heat by the LaCrosse.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product
Cobalt or Colorado, those will see the most sales increases as people are downsizing.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product
The Cobalt. GM needs to start focusing its attention on smaller vehicles.
Rumor has it the Wave is coming to America. I read it on an auto news site. Not okay, GM...not okay. Stop rebadging. Seriously.

Re: Most Desperate GM Product
I say the colorado. The colorado xtreme is just like the s10 xtreme. Cheap tinny trucks that make you think you have a powerful motor under the hood when you don't. Hell, the 5 cylinder don't even make 300 horsepower! My HEMI gets 345 horse power and can smoke any colorado out there. Maybe GM needs to correct this problem before they slap an xtreme sticker on the side and call it a spor truck because it is not at the same level Rumble Bee, by any means

Re: Most Desperate GM Product
I'm not sure why people hate the current Colorado so much. Sure if GM did more continuous improvement (interior upgrades, etc.) and maybe actually advertised the truck it would sell better. I was in the market for a versatile vehicle and bought a loaded 3.7L I-5 Z71 2WD Crew Cab Colorado early last month. The Tacoma is overpriced (all the trucks on the dealer lots were over $30K) and has really bad fuel economy with the V-6 and not offered with the I-4 in all but base regular cab trims. Ditto for the Frontier. The Dakota and Ranger are twice as old as the Colorado/Canyon and really need a re-design.
My Colorado gets pretty good mileage with the I-5 with a calculated low tank of 18.2 mpg, a high tank of 24.7 mpg and an average over 2K miles of 22.6 mpg. I've been hauling the half ton allowed with ease with the torquey 3.7L and it's 242 hp. The frame is pretty stiff and the brakes great when hauling loads in the bed or a trailer. Sure a V-8 would be nice for hairy chested boasting, but its not really needed. I would have liked a floor mounted shifter option, Stabilitrac (coming in 2009), on-board computer, and steering wheel radio and cruise controls. Sure the 2.8L V-6 turbo motor used in the Saab and a 6 speed auto would have also been nice as would a diesel option for the low end torque. Maybe GM can find them in a re-design. Some of the interior bits I mention can be bought from the Hummer H3 parts bin and installed. That will give me some winter projects to work on.
