GMC is SELLING. Get that into your heads. They're GM's 2nd best selling division. Why do you think they sell so many Sierras every year when people could just get a Silverado? Bottom line: People like the upscale feel. The Chevys will always feel like work trucks, even the LTZ models. The Sierras feel like upscale, luxury trucks that can still tow/haul. Since they're just Chevy rebadges, they don't even need to do R&D on them, it's like free money coming in just by slapping a GMC badge on the truck.
Face it, GMC HAS to offer something that Chevy just can't. Otherwise, nobody would buy their vehicles.

WORD!

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

How about combining GMC & Hummer into a "GMC" commercial trucks division? All of the GM commercial/future military trucks become GMCs. Thus, the GMC name remains, but the products all disappear.

I believe it will be GMC in addition to HUMMER. HUMMER will be sold off, but GMC is essentially a clone of Chevy trucks and not needed.

Why not just put Chevy and GMC together and then if someone wants a GMC truck they just take the thing to the back room and switch the Bowtie for a big GMC.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

How about killing Chevy trucks and selling all trucks and suv under GMC that way no brands are totally cut and the consumers still have the comfort of knowing their brands.just sell GMC as the truck and suv line that would also look better for Volt and chevys lineup that would allow for better EPA rating b/c the chevy wouldn't have trucks.

Chevy vs Toyota and Nissan cars

GMC vs all trucks

Saturn vs Vw

Pontiac vs Mazda and Scion

Buick vs Lexus and Infinite

Saab vs Audi and Volvo

Cadillac vs Benz and Bmw

Go price out a Silverado and Sierra. They are the same except for GMC has the top of the line luxo Denali version.

I am due for a new truck next year, if GMC (Sierra) is not there then I won't be buying GM. Sorry, but the Silverado is bizarre looking. GMC sells a lot of vehicles up here (I see 3 or 4 Sierras for every Silverado). Mostly its due to looks and style, if that is hard for everyone to understand why aren't we all driving tiny square no name boxes? Its cheap and easy money for GM because we all know the trucks are the same under the skin.

Kill Hummer and Saturn. They are both victims of perception, it seems no matter how nice Saturn makes cars nobody is interested. But I'd also say be prepared for a huge loss of customers. Toyota is almost tied for US market share right now, this will put them over that line.

Yes, they're all rebadges. But look at the sales. Why are that many people buying a rebadged Silverado instead of buying the Silverado? Why are they buying an Acadia over an Outlook? A Canyon over a Colorado? There is a perceived difference between GMC and those other brands. And being re-badges, their cost delta is low relative to their counterparts. If they can command a higher transaction price that justifies the increase in production cost, it's a net win for the company.

Kill GMC and those GMC buyers would NOT go to other brands, just like Olds buyers opted by & large for non-GM brands.
I know we are talking about GM but I want to apply the same to Mercury, why do you think that about 150,000 people last year bought a Mercury and not a Ford. But back to GM I think they should get rid of Hummer and Saab and kill Pontiac, Buick has a guardian angel and thats the chinese market

This one too! But I don't think Pontiac should compete w/ Scion--do they even have anything remotely performance-driven? Chevy's new Beat or whatever can compete w/ Scion just fine.

Because maybe people like their styling better?
I don't think I'm stupid for preferring an Envoy over a Trailblazer. I don't think I'm stupid for wanting the Sonoma over the S-10. GMCs just look and feel better than Chevys.

GMC, simply for the fact that I do not see where it fits? They are all re-badged Chevys and why would GM want that when they are trying to live down the negativity of the 80's & 90's from rebadging.

Which brand came first? GMC. So technically, Chevys are rebadged GMCs.

I wonder how many people who are yelling for GMC's downfall have ever owned a GMC.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

GMC is the next biggest brand to chevy, so I never before wouldve suggested that. But, the new writing is on the wall. Gas will kill GMC if GM does not!

How is the Sierra a rebadge? Have you seen the current Sierra and Silverado? The fenders are different, the grille is different, the hood is different. Styling is subjective, but to me the current Sierra is hands down more appleaing design than the Silverado!
