Youth oriented.

Buick: Targeting the soft luxury market. By that I mean competing with the SOFT luxury market. IE FWD Acuras, Lexus, etc...... Focus on luxury, comfort, and technology.

Cadillac: Everything is fine here. Full service Performance Luxury Cars. I have no suggestions for Cadillac.

Saturn: Americanized version of Opel (I realize it already is) Providing the whole idea works.

GMC: You cannot chop GMC if you intend to keep Pontiac and Buick. PB Dealers must have a truck option, it is that simple.

Hummer: Create fuel efficient options!!!! the H2 is built on the Tahoe platform. Hybrid model anyone? H3: Direct injection, diet, turbos? Jeep Wrangler competitor?

Saab: Vehicles must be priced lower (I work at a Saab dealer, this is a primary problem) Saab vehicles need to offer a luxury alternative at a great price. A 9-3 Convertible for 32-35K would be much more appealing than 40K.

chevy --- kill them off and bring them over to GMC as you know all major auto makers have a division named after them, toyota, honda, nissian, ford, chrysler, mazda (ford only has management control not over 50% of stock)
so if they all have a division that is a full line of products why shouldnt gm also

Finally somebody that gets the point of GMC and Buick.

Did you mean "diesel" instead of "diet"??

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

Chevrolet has entirely too much brandy equity to simply merge with GMC

And I did mean "diet"
Diesel is not a bad idea either though. The new 4.5 Liter perhaps?

come on GM and brand equity? if that was an issue then why does chevy keep renameing their compact cars, chevette, cavalier, colbat, chevy cruiz,
now buick, lesabre, park ave, road master pontian 6000, sunbird, firebird, and on and on. So what should GM care about brand equity? I say just rename Chevy as GMC thus you are just renaming the division GMC and dropping all the previous GMC models or perhaps also make all the new GMC cars that were Chevy with four wheel drive also, now that would be cool a camaro jackup with big 36" mudder tires on a gmt 9000 platform

The biggest problem with Pontiac is Saturn, Chevy and Cadilac... in that Saturn is now making sporty affordable FWD cars + the Solstace. Chevy is making affordable sporty cars + the Camaro and Corvette. Cadilac makes high end/high tech sporty and luxurious cars.

So between these three, what's left for Pontiac?

So Pontiac should be killed off too and Pontiac dealers should be either given a Chevy or Saturn franchise.
Why should GM kill Pontiac to cut overlap when it had the G6 and Solstice before Saturn got their versions, and Pontiac’s versions sell better?

I really want you to explain your reasoning?

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

As I post this I count 438 GMI voters who need to take a business course of some kind.

Please anything - basic accounting, something.

GMC delivers 400K in annual sales and $2-4 Billion in CASH.

And no; those 400K sales will never go near a Chevy dealership - EVER.

They are forever lost sales and forever lost profits, plain and simple.

The automotive industry is more complicated than running a coffee shop and many things that generate profit in it do not work in other businesses.

When you can present a plan that replaces GMC sales and more importantly CASH - post it.

GM will always have a brand between Chevy and Cadillac and that brand will have a Truck brand with it, otherwise GM does not exist, it is just Chevrolet.

The real question is which of these brand(s) will be the car portion of the "middle brand" and which is cut (if any).
Buick
Pontiac
Saturn

You have to select at least one to be the foundation for the Mid-brand, then decide what to do with the other(s).

i love the Pontiac brand plain and simple but it is just a shadow of its former self. unless GM does something to revive Pontiac (i.e. bring the Trans AM and/or GTO back and stop with the alpha-numeric names for the cars) instead of keep on running it into the ground, i have to say Pontiac should be axed along with Hummer and GMC. but no one wants to see what was once the best division of GM go to car haven so whip Pontiac back into its former self and focus on performance instead of worrying that trans am sales would compete with Camaro sales

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

I don't know about the rest of the country but here in California I see just as many,if not more GMC trucks than Chevy's. There is a perceived difference by most of the public. I've always bought GMC over Chevy because IMO they look better(though I'm not sure about the current styles).
Saturn is a waste of space. They simply replaced Olds and now they aren't selling either.
Saturn and Hummer are the logical choices. Hummers are nothing but niche vehicles and GMC could carry them. Just re-badge them.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

GMC on the surface appears to make sense, but as was said above. There are a lot of people out there buying GMC's that would probably not go to the Chevy, and cannot go to a Caddy SUV or pickup because of the price. How about they kill off Pontiac, Buick, and Saturn and bring back the Oldsmobile badge in a partnership with GMC? Yeah I know I'm only an old Oldsmobile guy lost in a fantasy of wishful thinking.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

I don't want to see any more divisions dropped. I was angry with Toyota when GM stopped making Oldsmobiles. GMC is a cornerstone of GM, it stands for trucks. I would drop the Chevrolet line of trucks and concentrate on Chevrolet cars if it were up to me.

Latest rumor from The RenCen

We aren't going to cut a division... we are tooling up to takeover another...

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

Yes if you haven't noticed in about 600 posts...
My sense of humor is... Dark.

Interesting fact about that part...
If you drive a Toyota Cavalier and need that part GM sells it for $10 cheaper then you can get it at a Toyota dealer... Interesting.

BTW these cars... The Toyota Cavalier... are developing a bit of a "Cult" status in California and on the rest of the west coast...

There are firms that mostly import just these...
