I would've voted for Pontiac had I read mgescuro's commentary earlier.

I voted for none!
If GM would spend as much as they have on turning Cadillac around w/the other divisions they have neglected things wouldn't be in such a mess as they are.

Where would they get that cash from?

They should have reinvented Chevrolet years ago and continued to do so before anything else. Chevrolet is what pays the bills.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

If GM are talking about killing GMC and Pontiac, 2nd & 3rd largest selling brands for GM, they are talking code for closing plants and losing shifts.
Well thats what I see anyway, a huge increase in the pace of NA production capabilty reduction.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

Chevrolet - mainstream

Buick - pre/luxory with folded Opel lineup with it

Cadillac - luxory vehicles

thats it folks folks paired down to what it needs to be so they spend money on the divisions they have without having product overlap.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

I doubt GM would eliminate Chevrolet, but is it, or any of their brands one which people instantly associate with value, quality, and style they want? What does the brand mean? What do any of GM's brands mean? Toyota provides strong evidence that two brands are sufficient, although they are experimenting with Scion. It seems that it would not be difficult to justify two completely new brands to replace all of the old ones.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

GM has done some stupid things in the past, but they will NEVER eliminate Chevrolet. That is assinine. I think they can drop Hummer and Saab. I personally am a Chevy guy, but bought a 2008 GMC Sierra. I think its better looking. Besides, I couldn't get the light gray interior with the victory red paint in a Chevy...I have no clue why. Leave GMC alone, its the older brand anyway.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

To me the answer is simple: GMC. Up until now, it made sense to have the GMC-Buick-Pontiac dealerships because GMC was a cash-cow with SUV and large truck sales. With average-35mpg 2020 CAFE standards and the high price of gas, GMC sales will continually decline...those looking for GMC vehicles can simply go to their local Chevy dealership. Chevy should offer signature/luxury series Tahoes and Suburbans to appeal to the Denali buyers.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

cut GMC consumer buy VW. DON'T cut Pontiac or Buick. Hummer on build H3 and sell the Hydrogen H3 to consumers. Who ever voted for cutting Chevy has problems. If GM was to buy VW I belive that GM would dominate the consumer car market even more than they do now. And with the VW commercial and GMC commercial that they would also have a good advantage in the light commercial truck market.

Why is Saturn needed? Do you not get that Saturns don't sell? Cutting Pontiac and Buick means cutting 500,000+ sales, Saturn doesn’t even sell half that many cars.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

Chevy should die. I don't care if that closes down GM, but that's how much I hate Chevy. The monopoly division. All the others should remain, but Chevy should get the axe, cause I am sick and tired of seeing them as the volume brand, for killing my favorite Pontiac while their 'BABY' Impala garbage continues, and I am sick and tired of all the re-badges that are from trashy Chevy Craps and I hate the facts that all the other division gets the leftover Chevy junks as their engies and parts. All of their cars should be dropped, and all of their trucks should go to GMC and Hummer instead.

Re: Which GM Brand(s) Do You Think Should Get The Chop?

How is it that Toyota does so well with only Lexus as its other brand? Same with Nissan/Infiniti and Kia/Hyundai? All GM needs is Chevy as the value/performance division, Buick as the near luxury division, and Cadillac as the Luxury division. GMC and Pontiac are little more than dolled up Chevy trucks and cars. Turn the G8 into the Caprice and the Solstice into the Stingray and axe the rest of the twins.

Just get rid of trickey rickey wagoner. He is the poster boy for brown noser getting to the top. Get a raise and wants the blue collar worker to bite the bullet. If he got paid for performance on the assembly lime he would be long gone.

Toyota also has Scion. So that is a total of 3 brands Toyota has to manage.
