Just to add insult to injury, this engineer was on contract and got laid off last month and his severance was just 2 weeks pay.
Engineers in India work for far less. Maybe he can get a refund from that "prestigious" university. 5-6 years to get a degree and that only buys a temp job? Vote McCain.

I blame GM - they manufacture and sell the car (and marketed it as "An American Revolution!")

It's just a difference in cost of living tied to the lifestyle you grow accustomed to. One of my best friends is originally from Michigan. She has explained some of the differences just in the tax structure between Tennessee and Michigan. We don't have a state income tax. It costs me $29 to renew my car tag once a year. My property taxes aren't too totally outrageous. The 9.25% sales tax does suck (2.25% of that is local city).

If you want to spend $500,000 on a house here, you can. I think the median price of homes here is around $130,000. But, it's very easy to find a decent house that could use some TLC for $50-65,000.

The median family income here is around $41,000-$42,000 with men averaging $31-$32,000 per year ($14.90-15.38/hr) and women $23-$24,000 per year ($11.05-$11.53/hr).

Sounds like that engineer needs better representation, he should join a union.

As for the union guys here, you need to stop arguing with the anti-union guys. Remember, they are the educated ones. They know what is right for America, they learned it in books. They are the ones bringing the U.S. headlong into globalization and slowly eroding the American way of life. They are the ones that have gotten this economy to where it is now with all their schemes to take the uneducated masses money away from them.

Remember, the educated people are book smart. They know numbers, greed and how to take your money. The blue collar person may not be book smart but is loaded with common sense, the educated would be put into the zero common sense bracket, thus, they rob America blind. It is a ying and yang relationship. The best thing to do is go out and organize, bring more of the common sense into the unions and fight the corruption and greed of the educated. The more money you take from them the more pissed they get.

Now doesn't all that just sound plain stupid? Think about it.

True....and if the UAW keeps shooting themselves in the foot then that can soon become a reality for them as well.

Back to the article....I see both sides of the fence, but I have a hard time seeing a workforce unionize because they are too lazy to ask for a raise themselves or work somewhere that has better pay.
