Members of United Auto Workers Local 602 went on strike Thursday at General Motors Corp assembly plant that makes fast-selling crossover vehicles, the company and union said.
We are disappointed that UAW Local 602 has taken strike action at the Lansing Delta Township plant,'' GM spokesman Dan Flores said. We remain focused on reaching an agreement as soon as possible.http://www.reuters.com/article/marke...0080417?rpc=44 |

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
Economy in the toilet.
Domestic manufacturers reeling from decades of share loss and lack of profitability. Auto sales down 10% this year. GM invests $$$ in a new plant in rust-belt Michigan. Yeah, let's strike now. We want to earn the burning enmity of every living non-UAW member in North America.

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
HOW FUNNY IS THIS!
The UAW represented supplier goes on strike before the UAW represented manufacturing plant members can! Now instead of strike benefits, the GM workers will be 80% pay due to the fact that their union brothers beat them to the picket line. Like the tagline states...ONLY GM. |

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
Stupid once, always stupid! They just can't figure why the companies want to dispose of the union members or why the foreign manufacturers won't allow them to organize in their plants.

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
The article's too brief to detail why the strike is occurring:
Quote:
Did GM renege on promises made during the national talks? If so, shame on GM; you get what you deserve. And it would make perfect sense to strike at Lansing. If the Union is not abiding by the agreement, if they're being needlessly difficult, then shame on the UAW. |

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
I am going to the union hall shortly,I will explain why we went on strike later. GM has been dragging their heels on a local contract for 7 months now. Sadly someone has to draw a line in the sand.

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
I sure hope they have a good reason for going on strike. Whatever world they are living in, they do not seem to realize that the competition is not hampered by union workers (local govt with those factories assured that). With that being said, is it there intent to do whatever they can (unions) to drive the auto industry out of this country. The car companies do share some blame on this but one day this industry is going to come close to a total shut down with just the non union plants still in business. The american public does not care where their cars come from just as long as it is affordable. It is not 1950, 60, 70, 80, or 90's times have changed and everybody in this industry better find a good common ground. I do not feel sympathy for anyone who thinks they are owed a high paying job just because, times change wake up or be jobless.

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
I'd be interested in your feedback, mostly from a "just plain curious" perspective. It's hard to castigate either side without specifics, though I'm sure both sides will see some ire directed toward them before we get more information.

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
Let the bashing begin!!!! These are my favorite threads...and if you all wait a couple more weeks the United Steel Workers Local 2-921 is set to strike against Comprehensive Logistics on May first. This will shut down Lansing Grand River, and all the fat, lazy, uneducated UAW workers there will get paid unemployment benefits.

You'll be drawing a lot of lines in the sand once GM closes shops altogether in the states.

Re: UAW local members strike at GM Lansing plant
That's the way unions think. It's either their way or NOBODIES WAY! Well, I just want GM to stop dancing with the UAW and start moving production out of the country. I am tired of being a dealer employee and not getting our rare hot products because some wrench turner wants $60 and hour. Listen, I know it sounds harsh but GM needs to draw THEIR line in the sand and start moving production out out the country bit by bit until they bring the UAW to it's knees. This way, the rest of GM's non-union employees can work towards prosperity TOGETHER and let capitalism work for them (which is completely opposite of the UAW's socialist agenda).
