Recall of first-shift GM workers is 'indefinite' (Moraine GMT360)

Quote:
MORAINE — First-shift workers at the local General Motors Corp. plant are being called back to production jobs until further notice, the company said Wednesday, May 14.

"At this time, we are considering this an indefinite recall," said Jessica Peck, spokeswoman for the SUV assembly plant off Stroop Road.

First-shift employees are asked to report to work Monday, May 19, Peck said. By this time next week, the plant should have 1,300 to 1,500 employees total, including salaried workers, she said.

Second-shift production workers remain on temporary layoff, she said.

Peck could not say how axles became available for production.

"The parts became available and therefore we're more than happy to make the vehicles," Peck said.

I wonder where they got the parts?
Sounds like good news for you, NfamousZ24!

Well I am on 2nd shift so I don't get to go in. But from what I read on our Union Website. Managment can only bring in 1 shift like that for no more than 10 working days. But the Union agreed to 15 working days. So 1st shift goes in for 3 weeks then 2nd shift goes in for 3 weeks. That means I am going back to work on June 9th.

Then again with the way sales have gone because of soaring gas prices....... I didn't want to come in until after July Shutdown to be honest.

How threatened is Moraine? With BOF SUV sales sinking like the Titanic, and no rumours of a new product for Moraine, what's going to happen to you guys?

I really can't see the GMT360s feasibly lasting more than about another year on the market.

Well the GMT360's were scheduled to end production Sept '09. It is a scary thought. To be out because of the AAM stike, Watch the field day supply go down origanaly. Then gas prices keep on soaring then to watch the field day supply numbers go back up when we are not making them.

The people of Moraine Assembly are doing what they can to keep a product. If you look at GMS (Global Manufacturing System) standard. This is the new and greatest thing the GM wants all of their Asembly plants to conform too. Moriane Assembly is in the top 5 in N America. Tied with Delta Lansing (Which was built under the GMS guidelines) Behind Bowling Green, Oshawa, and the Mexico truck plant.

Oh and to the people that say Moraine Assembly can only build BOF stuff. What about the Large SUV plants when and if GM stops making them BOF. :O

With the way gas prices are headed here ($3.99 a freaking gallon, gave me a heart attack), I think the Envoy's going to have to go soon. It sucks, you guys at Moraine did a good job with her.
Maybe you'll get a Theta crossover? Unless they've all been assigned to Mexico/Canada by now.

I had no idea they were on strike for so long. I truly enjoy driving my 02 Trailblazer LT. One of my neighbours just bought a new one. I wouldn't buy a unibody SUV.

Hope to hear you back at it soon Nfamous. GM has been so stupid regarding this vehicle. Too bad you and your co workers have to suffer because if it.

QFT

We were supposed to get a new product, We were even awarded it with renogtiating our contract to help GM out. Then Hurricane Katrina and Rita hit. GM decided to pull money away from us to pull the GMT 900s ahead.

Origanal Originally talks were we was going to get the Lambda but the GMT360 sold better than GM thought. GM made Moraine Assembly GMT360 and 370 while OKC was just GMT370. Another dumb move by GM managment was that they pulled out all of the GMT370 stuff, Then 6 months later closed OKC. They could of kept all of the GMT370 at Moraine Assembly and we could still be building both. I honestly think that OKC shouldn't have ever been in the picture.

Where are the Alphas being produced?
And yeah, it would be pretty sweet if Moraine produced them.

Ah.
You guys should get to build whatever comes out of the GMC Denali XT concept. That'd be pretty cool.
