Lansing Delta plant goes down.

http://www.lansingstatejournal.com/a...WS03/804160341

UPDATED 1:10 p.m. DELTA TOWNSHIP — The General Motors Corp. Lansing Delta Township plant is running out of parts to make hot-selling crossover vehicles because of a strike at Alliance Interiors.

And it has forced the Detroit automaker to reduce production at the factory that makes the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia and Saturn Outlook.

Hourly workers at Alliance, an automotive supplier to the GM assembly plant, walked off the job at 9 p.m. Tuesday night after nearly a year of negotiations on a first contract. Workers there are represented by United Auto Workers Local 724.

With the walkout, no new carpets or other car parts are being shipped from Alliance to the GM Delta plant about two miles away. The crossover vehicles made there have been consistently touted by GM as some of its best-selling vehicles.

The GM plant produced vehicles for about four hours Wednesday morning, said GM spokeswoman Heidi Magyar. Most workers were sent home after that, but a few stayed on for training and other activities.

This would also affect the Chevy Traverse. Inless they have different suppliers.

And if they had started to produce the Traverse yet. Which they haven't.

I believe the Chevy Traverse will be built at the former Saturn plant in Spring Hill.

Should be sometime this summer since they'll hit dealer lots in fall.
What's with all the random strikes suddenly? First American Axle, now this?

Re: Lansing Delta plant goes down.

These guys better learn that in a failing economy, they don't have the upper hand. A few years ago, maybe, but not now. I don't like the fact that people are being asked to work for less, but it is an unfortunate reality in today's world. Demanding more pay doesn't make it happen or make reality go away. Sad times. Hopefully with the weak dollar we can start producing things here again so we can export again. Maybe there is a method behind the madness afterall.

Re: Lansing Delta plant goes down.

Bargaining almost a year on a first contract, no pressure on anybody. I'm sure GM will have a little chat with Alliance, and quite probably the local representation.Usually these things are done quickly.

It's a good idea, but the economy will turn like this again once the dollar is worth more in the future

As of today, Alliance Interiors is back to work...

They seem to make carpet for the Lambda's. Problem is, Lansing Delta Township itself is on strike, so carpet or not, no Enclaves for you

I dunno, other than guessing that they're guessing that they have some leverage at this point. How many times can someone shoot themselves in the foot before they bleed to death?
