Not that I'm a big fan of the current G5 coupe but Pontiac may as well sell the companion sedan as well for all those looking for another fuel sipping option.

What sucks is that the manual can only be had on certain models.

I'd like to see an XFE package available with the upper level Cobalts.

I wonder if GM will consider changing some of their truck plants to car plants. Seems like it would be good to shift production to vehicles that need it. I know it'd cost a lot to retool, but at least the employees could keep their jobs.

Excellent news! Hopefully these sales will continue their upward climb and help to offset losses in SUV's/Trucks. If the current Cobalt is doing good, just wait until the new one comes, with a full marketing campaign behind it!

the cobalt engine may not be able to pull 6th gear except on the level so it would not make much if any MPG difference.

So essentially the thing that is happening to Civic is happening to Cobalt

Or as one GMI'er from back in the day called it, Cobore.

Wait... are you saying you FOUND a GT with a 5-speed manual?

Man, we looked ALL over the internet. I asked one of the dealers here in town if a GT w/ 5-speed was even available and (of course) I got the "Well... no..." look. (yeah, he had a fleet of auto GT's to sell, I get it)

A 5-Speed G5 GT would possibly make me reconsider...

Yeah, that's why I was wondering if the 6-speed auto would come with a new engine capable of pushing it... the exiting motor ain't gonna cut that, to be sure.

You must be getting the Cobalt mixed up with the Corolla.
The Cobalt is the fastest compact you can buy for less than $20K. Power ain't a problem.

Lets see, the manual is available on the most powerful Cobalt (SS) and the most fuel efficient (XFE). The automatic isn't available on either.

+1

Who knows, it could actually sell 50K units/month...like a certain other compact car did last month.

Excellent news for everyone. And $14 an hour isn't too bad. I can remember as a college graduate in the mid-90's at Honda in Marysville. They would only bring in temps at $8.50 an hour for up to 2 years, then possibly hire you if you did a good job. So in today's society, those are good jobs and the local community should benefit from them.
