Chrysler contract narrowly ahead
http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll...710230391/1148
The tentative agreement between Chrysler LLC and the UAW has thus far won the approval of just over 50 percent of workers, but the vote is so close that at least two of three big Chrysler assembly plants voting this week must approve the contract for it to win ratification, people close to the situation said Monday. They also said if the four-year pact is rejected by a close vote, Chrysler will likely ask the UAW to take a revote, rather than to return directly to the bargaining table. Those at Chrysler apparently see a defeat as the "union's problem" that must be resolved by the union. Two of the assembly plants that could determine ratification are in Metro Detroit. Sterling Heights Assembly and Warren Truck Assembly are scheduled to vote Wednesday. The third, Belvidere Assembly in Illinois, won't vote until Friday. Locals at the three plants represent more than 9,200 workers total.
