Not necessarily. Technology used in current hybrid cars will see life in fuel cell and full electric vehicles. Designing hybrid cars goes along way to spread out R&D on the systems, improve battery capacity in an incrimental (and likewise economical) maner, and smooth out the changeover for the public.

Japanese excell at copying.
They have no creativity skills at all.
Look at their designs. Total form following function.

Re: Toyota loses patent appeal for technology in Prius

I read somewhere that the first toyota vehicles ever produced were reverse engineered Chevys and Fords.
Looks like toyota's just up to the same old game.

Yes, and just the tip of the iceberg really.

Is there really anything in HSD that Toyota didn't steal when possible and pay for when that wasn't an option ?

Nice! The company deserves to get paid for it's technology; and get paid it will, $25 per vehicle? That's pretty awesome.

Re: Toyota loses patent appeal for technology in Prius

It's a small price to pay for an item that might have made it possible to get the Prius in production as fast as they did. Look what the Prius has done for Toyota's green image. Priceless. They should have to pay for every car that uses it period. It shouldn't matter where the car is being driven. I think they are getting off cheap.

Seattle engineer sues Toyota on hybrid system
Seattle engineer Conrad Gardner has sued Toyota Motor Corp., alleging that the giant Japanese auto manufacturer infringed on a patent for hybrid technology that is now used in the Prius, Camry and Highlander.
A 75-year-old inventor and former patent attorney at Boeing, Gardner argues that the hybrid vehicles produced by Toyota could not operate without his invention. U.S. Patent 7,290,627 -- dubbed "Extended range motor vehicle having ambient pollutant processing" -- is a computer control system that shifts power to the internal combustion engine or electric motor. (Full complaint here.)

"I just want them to respect the patents of others," said Gardner when asked what he hoped to gain from the lawsuit. "I am trying to teach them a lesson, you might say. That a small fellow, an independent inventor, is going to stand up for his rights. That's all."
Quote:

A former examiner in the U.S. Patent Office, Gardner said sometimes you have to sue a large corporation in order to get its attention.
This one (and a few others that should've) ......... makes you wonder...........is this part of why ........people are leaving ........??????

I wonder how they came up with $25 per vehicle anyway... is it just the cost of the particular part in question?
